Tank is moving out on the 31st (it's currently May 28th in my town).
Today, I asked Baabara to move in (from campsite).

I'm guessing she'll move in on the 30th or 31st. Tank will be in boxes on the 31st.

I won't get a random move-in (unless I streetpass someone) because I'm going from 9 to 10 back to 9 villagers. Right? So I might have the chance of inviting someone to move in?

From what I understand, random (non-streetpass) move-ins can definitely happen when you're down to 8. Is that right?

Could Baabara move in as late as the 1st?

I think you may find Baabara's movein interrupts Tank's moveout.

This is a slightly different setup, but I once had Bertha due to go, and on the day she was due to be in boxes I found a (streetpass) plot for Marcel. Bertha was not in boxes and did not, on this occasion, move at all. If Baabara moves in before Tank I suspect you'll have the same thing happen, because a villager can be moving in, or out, but not both at once.

I had no idea. It will be interesting to see what happens. I'm not desperate to get rid of Tank, so if he sticks around for awhile, that's okay.

I'm not sure what you're saying here, do you mean you have 9 villagers at the moment or that you have 10? I'm including Tank in that question.

If you have 10 villagers including Tank, I don't think Baabara can move in. Campsite move-ins take 2 days at most to move in, so if Tank is moving after that, she probably can't and you may not even get the option to do that.

If you have 9 villagers including Tank, you can invite Baabara to move in. I don't know if you're desperate to get rid of Tank or more desperate to get Baabara so whether you think it's worth a shot is up to you.

Yes. If you have 8 or less villagers, the next move in is always randomly determined by the game and that can include Streetpass and Wifi pool move-ins or just random ones. If you have 9 villagers, the 10th villagers is always someone you've invited through the campsite or visiting someone's town, or a SP/wifi move-in.

If you want to be on the safe side and prevent a SP move-in, by the way, you can always switch it off. You can go to the Mii Plaza through your 3DS home screen, and on its menu you'll have a red toolbox you can select to adjust the settings. There's an option there to switch off Streetpass. You can also check to make sure that SP and all your other connection settings are the way you want them to be via the main menu's Settings option.

I had a feeling I wasn't being clear.

I had 9 villagers. Tank, one of the 9, was scheduled to move out on the 31st. I asked Baabara to move in from a campsite on the 28th. Tank's departure on the 31st would have left me with 8 if Baabara hadn't moved in by then.

This is how it played out. (I tt'd quickly through the days because I was nervous about it and wanted it settled.) Baabara plotted on the 30th. She and her house were there on the 31st. Tank was in boxes on the 31st. That bring me back to 10. I haven't played June 1st yet, but I figure Tank will be gone and I'll be back to 9.

I may go ahead and turn off streetpass until I find a camper I like for my 10th. It's not like I'm streetpassing a lot of people these days anyway. I have to check with my son, though. It's his 3DS and he likes to streetpass for other games and such. I really need to get my own 3ds...
