Help! Empty Plot Question

I live in EST time zone. It is currently 11:27pm and it will soon be midnight. I have an open plot but obviously tomorrow the plot will be sold automatically if I dont get/find anybody.

I'm currently waiting for a villager to be cycled out so i can get him. A couple questions:

If it passes midnight, will the plot be automatically sold? Even tho I'm logged into the game? I'm currently afk in airport.
Also, if I time travel back a couple hours, will the plot be sold? Or will it continue empty? (I'd like to time travel back only like 3 hours to give the seller more time to cycle out the villager.)

you can safely time travel back a few hours, I've done it a bunch of times. And a villager I had in boxes once didn't move out at midnight (she moved out at 5am) so it might be the same for villagers moving in, though I'm not sure on that one

I can only answer one part since I don't time travel, but AC recognizes a new day at 5a, so the clock rolling to midnight shouldn't change anything for you.

I think a new day starts at 5am, not midnight.
I have TT back afew hours on the same day and no one moved in for me.

no worries! A new day starts at 5:00 am your timezone. Regardless of whether you're logged in or not, the day will be refreshed then and the plot may be potentially sold.
And no, you should be safe to TT back a few hours!

ah ok thank you so much everybody! if that's the case then I'm not going to time travel and I'll wait for the villager cause it will definitely be done waaay before 5am haha
