So, uh, yeah. I've been really stressed out lately because my town is just... Not how I want it. What makes it worse it that I don't even know how I want it. I get compliments when people walk through my town or whatever, but it just looks plain to me. I go to a bunch of dream towns and am just like, "How?". Alright, so let me explain. Oh, I should also note that my town has a fairytale/pastel theme to it.

-First off, I have a room (First floor, back room) in my Mayor's house that is empty. The house isn't themed, it just has different cute sets and shtuffff. Pink roccoco set, princess set, mermaid set, a customized set (I forgot but it's my favorite), and a sweets set with birthday items. I have absolutely no idea what to do with that room. It needs to be pink or pastel colored or something, but I'm having a hard time with it...

-I also have another fully expanded house that is currently a not-quite-half-done hotel, but I changed my mind. I'm not gonna demolish it because that'd be 10 mil+ down the drain, but I don't think it's all that great and it doesn't fit my town theme really. So, here I have a creepily empty mansion just chillin' by the train station. How lovely.

-Now about my town itself. I have so. many. landscaping. problems. I have no trees. Literally at all. My town has a lot of perfectly (sorta) arranged PWP's and my paths have been in their places for the past 2 years, but it's ... Okay, so I have hybrids, but only in little spots. My grass is showing EVERYWHERE, except in a few places. It's just so annoying how unhappy I am with my town. I don't know what to do or where to start with. I want to get the houses done first, but, you know the issue there.

I have all of my dream villagers, so now I can work accordingly with where their houses are (Smart, right?). I have a cute little park area near a cliff that has a fountain, carnations, a bench, flower arch, and hydrangeas around it (Only on the sides though, since the cliff blocks the right side). So yeah. I'm stuck.

There are literally so many empty spots in my town that I can't put anything there. I'm not able to add little picnic areas (Well, because I don't have the PWP.. Ugh), I can't have little rest areas, etc. it's so incredibly frustrating. Sorry for the long post, but I was hoping that I could get advice as to what I should do.

Was finally able to get the photos.

Here is my town layout. The numbers on here match up with the numbers on the photos. That's where the photos were taken.

This is my Mayor's house. I had difficulty adding it onto the layout map, so this is where the orange player icon is.

These are trees to the left of that house. I most likely will chop them down.

This is the outside of the park. The holes in the ground are where bushes are supposed to be, but a villager planted their house there.

I just put a windmill there to avoid villagers from moving there, and because it was just plain.

This is where I managed to fill in an empty space in my town. I made 3 villagers have their houses right by eachother to make a row.

You've posted a list of very specific complaints that you have about your town as it is, but my suggestion is to first focus on the general. You mention having your dream villagers and being satisfied with your house placement. You don't mention any negative things about your overall town layout.

My advice would be to weigh the pros and cons. If you dislike the lanscaping and housing issues enough that you're willing to sacrifice dream villagers and a functional layout, then it might be worth considering resetting to get a fresh canvas to work with.

That ISN'T my primary solution, though. Given that your complaint is primarily landscaping, and landscaping is not a permanent change, you might just want to consider tearing up the landscaping and starting fresh. Maybe kick up all your paths, remove your bushes, and store your hybrids on the beach. Demolish disliked PWPs, and generally just return your town to being a blank canvas.

From there, take the time to decide on a theme that you truly love, on a direction, and when you've figured that out, work on rebuilding your town from the very basics.

This is only one approach to your problem, of course, and it's a bit radical, but maybe radical is what you need.

Hope this helps.

its so hard to read the pink my eyes hurt

Maybe some screenshots of parts of your town that you think are plain would help? A screenshot of your map as well?

I guess adding fruit trees and hybrids where there are empty spots would be nice if you don't have the right pwp's to put there!
Maybe some bushes along the paths with spaces in between

like this

O = bush X = path

O - O - O - O - O - O -
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
O - O - O - O - O - O -

will upload a picture later.

Seeing that your town is not a natural/foresty town, I would put lots of colorful hybrids everywhere and some trees everywhere.
Put different type of bushes in different parts of the towns or put different bushes together depending on what you like.

In spots like #8 or #9 is where I would put the hybrids

In the park spots, I would put nice benches to make it more park-like. Also tree stumps are cute ^^
I would also put some more lamps and clocks beside the paths (I will upload a picture later)

I think you're off to a good start. You have your path all laid out. I suggest working on little sections at a time. Flowers and bushes lining pathways can really spruce up a town.

I have five towns and my 5th was giving me so much trouble. I was tempted to restart. I'm so glad I kept it. I worked on small areas at a time and now I think it looks really pretty. I kept the top area natural, and placed paths on the lower half. It's like having two separate towns because they're so different from eachother. The natural part was the hard part, but now It looks really nice. ( In my opinion, lol )

I think you should just hang in there, and keep working on it. It takes time to decorate a town, and that's part of the fun. A pretty town doesn't happen over night. Try not to be too hard on yourself, and don't let other well developed towns make you feel like yours isn't good enough.

You can dream visit my 5th town if you like. It might give you some ideas. I don't have the code handy, but it's Mayor Annette from Cherish.

I had a pretty much perfect town map but then I decided I wanted a natural town that focused less on the landscaping so I resetted.
Now I'm just so unhappy because my house is in the worse possible spot. I wanted a spot in the corner of town ad I had hoped to get a bridge right in front of it but isabelle says no so getting anywhere is no fun. There is a round river part so the nearest bridge is even impossible to get to.

I have thought of resetting but I've reset so many times I'm tired of getting my progress back especially main street. /sobs

I kind of second what someone else said- your town seems more suburban than natural, so I would focus on getting the town more streamlined, with areas that are organized. Organization and symmetry are going to add to that lived in town feel. So create more gardens within your blank patches of grass, use bushes, heck you could even keep that cute little pine forest and just add a little dirt path through it to the campsite if you wanted. I think ultimately too, you need a theme for your town and town-specific PWP's. Once you know what your town is all about, ideas will come easier to you. What do you want your town to be?

The only thing that has always bothered me, with any town, are when the pathways hang over ponds or are too close to riverbanks, I don't know why, it just looks really awkward, even though I was super guilty of it myself, on account of my villagers moving their houses too far close to the river.

Thank you everyone for the advice so far! I'm definitely going to experiment a bit to see what works best with my town. I've always wanted trees and bushes, but it's such a pain to get saplings and bush starts D:<

Someone ought to make a guide for creating a good town worth enjoying for a long time. People have been having problems with that lately.

I think I will.

I just got home from running errands. My codes 1134-7829-3310. Town is Cherish. Send me a pm if you're available, and I'll turn on my game. And they are free. They're just taking up space on my beach. :)

Do you have the Icy Series? That would look nice in your fairytale room.

The cedar trees at #6 could be a hiding spot for a PWP or a place to grow hybrids. X are Empty spots
T X T X T X T
T X T X T X T
T X T X T X T

I did this in my summer town and put a stump at the bottom. Did three tree across and 5 trees down. My blue roses are in the middle to grow more. The trees are perfect apple tree.

You could cut the middle trees down to make room for a hidden PWP. Nice place for a bench.

Think your town needs some more trees. Different types of fruit trees would help.

For the hotel maybe change it back to a regular house. A sweets exterior would look nice.
The regal Series is fairytale. It looks nicer when the wall/floor and the furniture is redone.

Thank you all for the help! I'm going to start experimenting with all of the suggestions right now :)

your town is actually quite nice! my advice about the grass would be so wait until a villager asks to move out, then deny their request and TT ahead a month (if your ok with TT'ing) and it will be safe to time travel after a villager asks to move out and you deny. the grass will be nice and green, then you can return to the real time (any amount of time backwards will only count as one day, ims ure you know that though) and then, if you feel there are too many empty spots, you could line your paths with bushes. i think white azaleas would look really pretty in your town. You can also create little borders around your villagers houses, using bushes or flowers. Also, some mushrooms or clovers scattered around would look pretty as well. Another tip would be to plant more trees. the spaces in between each path section is a good place, it doesnt have to look too neat, i think trees look best when they arent totally alligned. Have fun!
