After visiting a town, you suddenly get a new villager moving in. Hard to explain, but That's how I got Merry from another town. Thing is, I never Talked to her at all. Has this happened to you?

If a villager moves out of a town without being asked into another town, they'll be in that players void. Once you spotpass/wifi connect with someone's town, their void villager will move to your town if you have the space. If your town is full, the other person's void get cleared though.

Yep, this has definitely happened to me. I had Walker move in from somebody else's town without talking to him or anything like that. By the sound of it you probably picked her up from the void. The void is when a villager moves out and nobody picks them up so they go into what we call the "void" and depending if they were a recent move-out or not, if you visit this town you can get the most recent villager that moved out but went to the void. The only way to ensure this doesn't happen is that you have 10 villagers or they clear their void by visiting somebody else's town that has 10 villagers so they can "clear" the void. To ensure you don't get any move-ins from the void. Hope this helps.

I get all the "ugly" void move in's. I'm not super annoyed by them since I'm cycling villagers atm.

This used to happen to me way too much and most of the time I would end up getting someone's unwanted squirrel. At one point half of my town was squirrels. What I started doing is turning off my WiFi switch when I left home so I wouldn't pick anyone's voided villagers. Downside, you don't get any streetpasses but it's worth it so you don't get any unwanted villagers.

Ah the void and its drama..

I got several villagers from the void. The worst being rizzo because he plot his house on my garden and i just don't like him :/

That's why you'll often see people asking if they can come and "clear the void", to remove that data from their game so it doesn't transfer to the next person they play/trade with

I live with another ACNL user and we always streetpass eachother and pick up each others 'ugly' villagers. Or well, we did, until I turned streetpass off because I didn't want to deal with it anymore

Yeah, my old Apollo just jumped ship into a friends town the other day It happens all the time, one of the many mysterious properties of the "void".

Unfortunately, yes. It sucks. It happened when a villager is voided. Normally people are supposed to warn you if someone just left their town and was voided so that you are prepared. It really sucks. The only way you can prevent this is to have 10 villagers at the time, clearing the void by having them clear their data, or turning off streetpass when you go out so you don't pick up someone else's unwanted villager.

I have the worst luck and get all the uggglyyyy villagers :c I am currently in the middle of cycling through them and getting them out. Halfway done. Best of luck getting them out of your town!

My daughter and I kept exchanging villagers, lol, until I turned my SP off. And I always try my hardest to remember to clear my void after someone moves out.

I've literally learned just how how to turn off streetpass. I'm saving the final spot for my last dream villager (Kyle or Wolfgang) so I can't risk it being taken.
Maybe you could do the same? Just until you get the villagers you want at least. The 10th villager will never move out (or it's very very rare they do) so if you get a streepass villager by accident and it's your 10Th and you have a town of 9 dream villagers you would have to lose one....
Just isn't worth the agree or paranoia for me

One time I somehow picked up a villager who was in boxes without talking to them. It was pretty strange since I went out of my way to NOT talk to them. I guess it's because no one else visited the town?

I only travel or accept visitors when my town is full. I have 10 villagers at the moment, so I can do what I want. As soon as someone moves and I'm back to 9 villagers, no one comes in and no one goes out.

Yeah I picked up Quillson from someones void a couple of weeks a go, lucky me Never knew about the "void" before that.

Yeah, if you have streetpass on I think you it's possible to have a random move in if under ten villagers and if someone's void is not clear, but Merry is quite cute cx
