Have you ever wanted/shunned a villager because of their name?

I like having villagers with the same name as my characters, but never really concidered names besides Judy, which is the name of my grandma. I thought it was cute at first, but slowly weirded me out.

I like Kid Cat's name because its inigue, like a few others, and stands out. Since its just his code name, though I call him Cat. I wonder what his actual name is

Since I've experienced this game in two languages I can say that in English I have 0 issues, but Spanish. Oh what an experience in Spanish. For starters one character has my name, so I physically can't invite her to my island. Cyd has a friend's name, so sometimes when he gets all philosophical in his letters I show them to my friend, but I haven't experienced the "it reminds me of you" at all. I think that it's because even though I read the name "Ramón" my mind processes it as Cyd because I knew him by that before.

In English I love names like Dom (who? Who saw this name and was like yes, nothing weird to see here?!), Angus (which is not only a bull but their meat is delicious, so I find it even funnier and darker when his shirt has fire on it) and Lucky (the irony. Though I like a little more his name in Spanish, Pupas, as a referenced to him probably getting hurt a lot.). There are names that are just translations or very similar like Kid cat - Gatomán (Catman), but oh boi how weird the names can turn in Spanish. There's a snooty anteater that is literally called vacuum cleaner (Aspiradora).

I have no sought out or rejected a villager based on name. There is a villager with my name and I don’t want her. Not because of her name but because the way she dresses makes her look like she has a shall we say adult oriented career.

Honestly, when I meet someone with the same name as me irl, I really just don’t like it. It’s very rare though and I always feel like they mutually dislike it. With that being said though I was drawn to a villager with the same name as me from the beginning and not because of the name, but because there’s something about them that I liked. I almost didn’t get them because of the name. They became kind of a joke between someone and I and and they grew on me anymore and I decided to give them a chance and I’m glad I did because I adore this villager so much. Their personality is great and their aesthetic matches me perfectly. They’re even my favorite color. It happened again with a different villager having the name of someone who hurt me in the past and I wanted to dislike them, but there’s something about them that I really like. I got them as my forced camper and planned to give them away. The longer they were on my Island though, the more attached I became and I couldn’t bring myself to give them away. So I wouldn’t say that I’ve chosen or have been repelled by them because of their names because I just like them.

I don't think so actually! I used to know someone who was named Lily-- but I don't mind the fact that she shares the same name as the frog villager.

In fact, my usual perspective is: If it's a video game character that has the same name as someone I knew, even if I don't like them or didn't get along with them in real life, I don't really mind at all, because it's a video game character, not a real person.

fantasy and reality are not the same!
that's my take on it. : ^ )

(I also think that maybe my personality is more relaxed about those types of things. I don't get bothered by that type of thing a lot, but yeah, I guess it depends. It can feel tempting not to like a fantasy character because they are named of someone I didn't like IRL. but I try not to go down that path, because it's not worth it. What's more important is that I have fun playing the game or doing the thing I love! And yeah, fundamentally, fantasy is different from reality.)

(and yes, I actually LOVE Lily the frog villager with all my heart, but personality-wise, she is nothing like the real person I knew!)

Oh yeah.. there are quite a few villagers I like the design of, but I could never invite them to my island, because they remind me of old friends.
I could simply switch the game to english to solve that problem, but it's one of the only things I have left in german.. I couldn't bring myself to change it to english or french just for a few names. :(
