Have you ever wanted/shunned a villager because of their name?

i have blanche on my island and i didn't really want her at first because i can't pronounce her name 😅

i didn't want to lose her and accidently shout out "where's blah-ch?!" 😂
but now i just call her "that bird"

There doesn't appear to be a villager with my name, but if there was, I'd want to stay as far away from her as possible lol
However, there's a villager sharing my younger brother's name and I don't really want that either.

I had to.

I once had a villager randomly move in whose name was the same as the person I had broken up with recently. It was really bad timing on their part, so I had to let them go. But on the other hand, I also have a really sweet friend named Rosie, and so it's fun to have that villager in my town c:

The mouse villager named Dora. I still don't like her name, but she's such a cute mouse and I needed a sisterly villager on my island at the time because Poppy had left.

I guess I am kind of shunning hugh for now, cause that is my sister’s ex who just dumped her for being too quiet/ not social enough...😡

But hugh the villager is very cute, so hopefully I will not have bad associations with the name forever.

I like Paula more than I might otherwise, because I gave her a second look because her name in Japanese is Rachel☺

I’m totally guilty of this. I really want Chelsea after the Sanrio update. I’m even trying to track down her amiibo purely bc she has the same name as me. I’ve like wanted her since new leaf but didn’t have her amiibo so fingers cross I can get her after the update

I avoid villagers with the same name as family members or people I know like the plague.
I dont want to be reminded of them constantly when playing the game.
There are actually a couple of cool villagers I would otherwise love that I now dislike due to that.

I actually found Tybalt due to his name.
I did not know who the villager was and was listening to a villager hunt livestream when they said Tybalt was on the island.
Being a fan of the character Tybalt it got my interest and I looked at my phone.
My love for the villager is because of them and not their name however. After all,
What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet

Very interesting! - I have the opposite feeling regarding villagers share the same name as my friends or family members. I feel like I would want them on my island more because of that

The only villager I don't like for their name is Henry (because the only Henry I ever knew was a jerk). It's kind of unfortunate because I think Henry (the frog) is super cute and he has such a cool house. :(

As for wanting a villager due to their name, it has to be Elmer for me. For those who don't know, Elmer is a glue company and glue used to be made from horses, so Elmer's name is so darkly funny to me for that reason. Combined with his sleepy face, he really won me over and now he's a permanent member of my town. :) I like to think I saved him from getting auctioned off. ;)

oh I didn't know that glue used to be made from horses! The humor makes so much sense now that I see the connection lol
I haven't sought out a villager for their name specifically (looks & character attachment trump naming), though an appealing name is always nice. I would avoid villagers based on their name in certain circumstances though...Biskit and Bea, the dog villagers, I would probably force out if I ever got them on my island. Not because I dislike them, but they share a name and nickname with my dog who recently passed, and being reminded of her every day during my "Animal Crossing & chill" time would hurt.
Ahh.. so sorry to hear about your loss 😔 I totally would feel the same if I were you. This is also precisely why I think names are such powerful things since they are so meaningful and closely connected to our memories.

I thought I was the only one and I was so ashamed 😅 I have wanted to try to have Graham on my island, but it always reminds me of my ex, since that was his little bro's name, and it just... bothers me lol, so he will never live on my island.

haha yeah I thought I was the only one too - but you are not alone in this regard! 😅
I have similar experiences too but unfortunately for me the character who shares name of ex is a NPC... so not much I can do about it lol

Fortunately, there's no villager named Monica that I know of -I just discovered that Audie's name in another language is Monica x'( Ew. At least I don't play in that language- as that is the name of a childhood bully and would hate to be reminded of that as I play but other than that I can't say that I personally seek out or avoid villagers based on names.

Ahh this would totally ruin the villager for me - would not want to be reminded of any childhood bullies! Fortunately mine has a unique name that hopefully I would never have to come across ever again.
I personally can't like Benedict the bird because it remind me of eggs benedict the breakfast and I feel guilty of feeling hungry lol

Hahaha yeah i'm pretty sure that's the real reason he got named Benedict (after the breakfast) not Benedict Cumberbatch 😅

 what a Jerk (your sister's ex)! yeah this is probably my only minor gripe with Nintendo naming villagers that have ordinary people's names - it's so difficult to not make the associations but sometimes the associations are not really welcomed

Ankha and Lucky were two of the villagers I wanted for their Egyptian names and looks in French (Neferti and Ramses, and I find these better than English ones especially Lucky because with all his bandages and the name... Idk, pretty sad I think?)

Fang's name is Pierrot in French, like in the song 'Au clair de la lune' so I find his name really cool too and can't wait to meet him! Wolfgang is in the same case, pretty name!

Rory's name is Hercule in French as well, I love mythological names!

Do you play the game in French?

Soooo Julian lol, I love his design but the name *urghhhhh* for real, nothing against Julians but a frigging unicorn named JULIAN? Idk, doesn't speak to me. I'll still try to get him tho but that name will always be an eye-sore lol

Oh I forgot a big one!
Boris! I love pretty much everything about him and would love to invite him to my island.

But every time I hear his name I just think of the prime minister.
I've nothing against the prime minister as such but he's got such a strong cartoony character I don't think I can take a villager with that name seriously.

I've been fortunate to not want/shun a villager simply due to their name, though I can definitely understand why some people do.

There isn't any for me. If there was one that shared my name i would probably avoid them unless I used a made up name for my player.
For villagers with very human names like Toby or Erik... It does sound really odd and akward to say I want ______. In my opinion. But not enough for me to avoid them.

I've never desired or disliked a villager just because of their name. Whether I personally like the character design or not is the most important factor. Sometimes I've refrained from a villager because I just can't stand their house's interior design though.
