Inspired by the "Has anyone ever cried when a villager moved" thread.
When I felt like resetting my City Folk town two years ago, I didn't think it would be that bad. I had owned my town for about a month and I was getting bored of the game because it was so similar to Wild World. I thought that my interest would maybe be renewed if I restarted.
It was a bad decision.
The night I reset, I wrote a R.I.P letter to the town of Maple and cried for a long time afterwards. I didn't realize I would be so upset; sometimes the resetting urge is a really bad thing, because you feel so willing to lose something you don't realize you love so much. :( I never had another town quite the same as Maple, and I doubt I ever will (especially because I don't play City Folk anymore).
Another time was when I reset my first New Leaf town called Cypress. I loved it so much...when the game came in the mail, I was so excited. I had waited years for this game to release! I played all day, giving so much love to my town and villagers. I still remember heading to the park afterwards and actually writing "June 13th, 2013- the day I got Cypress!" on a plastic bottle I brought to the park. I planned on keeping that water bottle forever.
Then, the day before Cypress' one month anniversary, I wanted to reset. I had slept on the thought and knew my decision was yes, but I didn't know how much it would affect me. I was excited to reset because I wanted another town, but after that, I was torn inside. In my misery (well, more like extreme sadness), I ended up throwing the water bottle away to avoid bringing back sad memories.

Anyway! What stories do you have to share?

When I reset my first town.

On my first solo town I had no clue what I was doing, except I was having fun. I placed all my PWP's together, couldn't grow a hybrid to save my life, sold my perfect cherry, etc.. :P I decided to reset. I forgot that I had most of my DLC and Sahara carpets, NIS items on one of my second characters. I did not transfer the items to my daughter's town to hold and I wiped it all away.

I also never appreciated the villagers I had, tbh I was dealt quite a good hand with the upper tier villagers. I've decided that I won't reset again. I am however rebuilding my main town and that challenge is enough for me :)

I had people hold my dreamies when I reset and I thought I'd be fine with resetting. I was so happy picking my new layout and everything. Everything was going great until I unlocked the dream suit, the first town I visited was my old town to see if it still worked and it did. Walking around my old town with all my dreamies made me really sad and I almost cried I wanted my old town back and my old villagers. I felt bad for a couple of days but then I started working on my new town and I stopped regretting it. I feel pretty good about resetting now c:

Yeah, I really regretted when I reset my first town. I had Ankha in it, and she's one of my dreamies. I didn't have a choice, though, because it was first time I'd played (ever) and I'd sold my only perfect fruit. It was pretty bad.

you reset just because you sold your perfect fruit? everyone does that lol xD

About a week after I reset my town, I felt a deep regret. I missed my favorite neighbor, I missed my quaint little areas and pwps.. it's been a few months since then and I absolutely do not regret it anymore. My old town layout was terrible, my current town is much more beautiful than my old one ever had the capacity to be because of the awful layout and poor planning decisions I made early on with my house and campsite.

My only perfect fruit. The one you get at the beginning of the game and only get one of. I didn't farm it, then sell it. I just sold it.

I hear a lot of people reset because of perfect fruit too, but when it's the only one you have, there's really no choice unless you allow someone to drop another off for you.
And I don't regret resetting as much anymore either, even though thinking about my old towns sometimes makes me sad. Sometimes the best things disappear too quickly. c':

Nope. I'm very happy with my decision to reset. Both times I've ended up with an even better town than I had before. The only thing I regret is not getting a few things done that I could have before resetting, but they'll get done eventually.

Yeah, I didn't have any friends that played at the time and I was, basically, drowning in debt. So I didn't really have a choice but to reset.

I have an addiction to resetting. In WW, I'd reset every couple of months because I hated my town layout. In NL I haven't reset yet and I've had the game for two months I believe and I'm feeling the urge. I won't reset I think, because every time I regret it. I hate starting over and doing things twice, but I love how it's not boring anymore and I keep clinging to the belief that if I reset, I'll get something better.

I am really torn about resetting or not! There are so many things I don't know about NL. Like... perfect fruit? Just found out that's a thing. I definitely sold mine when I got it. I didn't realize layout was so important... but I don't HATE mine.

I also feel like my trees, flowers, and public works projects are just all over the place. I didn't have a good idea of how I wanted things to be laid out, so now they're just kinda placed where ever Isabelle would let me put them. (Since she kept telling me my towns folk wanted more public work projects, I just kept building them!)

Sigh. What a struggle. How the heck do you make this decision?!

Not in this game. I was sick of my very first town only a few days after I picked it. After I reset I didn't get a super amazing town, but it's the one that I still have now and I love it. <3

However... In WW and the GC version, I reset both of my very first towns. As a kid I didn't realize I would want to see them again someday. Now they're lost, all because I was bored and felt like something new.

I recently reset for several reasons. One being that my favorite villager Hamphrey moved out by total accident, I wasn't happy with the map I had originally chosen, and I had also built PwP's in terrible places, namely the campsite which cannot be demolished. It was hard and I was only able to transfer a few items over, but I'm actually really glad I did it. My town seems a lot bigger now and I have a lot of space to work with, a clean slate has allowed me to rethink my choices and come up with a nicer town that I know will be worth it in the end. I've also almost got all my old villagers back with the help of this community. :D

On New Leaf, I regretted several of my resets... all of them because I got way too hung up over map layout. After giving up my first town, where I just took things as they were and used street pass, I didn't enjoy things too much anymore (on the new towns where I was resetting/not using street pass)e. Between dreamie hunting and plot resetting, trying to avoid the void... I wound up resetting what I though was my ideal town. Now, though,I don't regret it anymore. I've gone back to just playing and taking what I get. In the process I've found that I love my layout now, and I'm much more relaxed while playing when I'm not trying to reset for anything.

Nope. I've resetted my second town tons of times back when it was a cycling town. So that it would renew the villagers I had already had. There were a couple towns along the way I really liked. However, this last time resetting for good I found the perfect town map for me. I really, really, really love it.

I was tempted to reset my main town because I didn't think of resetting when I first started so I just chose the best out of the options given. At this point I've accepted the layout and I just have way too much investment in it to reset.
