and how did you handle them? What were they trying to scam you for?

I have got some calls, but my phone is like on silent 24/7 oops so i cant get to answer them.

MY MOM, also got a call from someone with this thick Indian accent saying that my mom needed to pay the IRS money immediately, and at first she believed it because that was like her first scam call, and so she called the IRS to check if she really did owe money, but they said no.

The reason I really want to talk to a scammer is because you know how they speak to you in English? Im a gonn reply in a foreign language, (most likely a mix of Mandarin, Persian, and Japanese), just to have fun with them and freak them out lol.

Every second call to my house is some idiot trying to get our money, either saying we "won a cruise" or that our air ducts/fireplace needs services.
We've gotten so tired of it that most of the time we just answer and hang up immediately after without saying anything. Though sometimes I like putting the phone to one of my dogs' ears and telling her to speak.

Not a call, but had some before get my credit card details from somewhere (still do not understand how or from where. They went on a nice shopping spree at a high end store, spent about ?2000 before the card company actually blocked it and contacted me. Luckily with it being a credit card it was easy to get my money back, may not have been the case had it been my own personal bank card

That was the same thing with our old home telephone, every day itd ring at least once with one of those advertisement people and it's get so annoying that wehenever my grandma's here she would always rush to get it and i'm like "chill!" because in her home advertisements rarely call her. That's why in our new home we disabled the home telephone and me and my mom just have cell phones so anyone can call us and not be spammers

I don't answer the phone unless I recognize the number or am otherwise expecting a call. If it's important and I don't answer, I expect them to leave a voice mail and I will just call them back.

That strategy makes me avoid scammers.

All the time, man... mostly to our house phone, but I get a lot of them on my cell. Which strikes me as odd because I don't really give out my number.

True. And when I look up the person's phone number it's usually like someone in Los Angeles county? Like that's literally in my area.

We had a house phone for no reason and all that we got were collection calls and people spamming us so we'd always pass the phone to my boyfriend who would take care of them, one time he pretended to be an old lady and made the people repeat themselves a million times. Other times he'd answer with thing like "Lori's Spank Bank: You Squeeze It We Freeze It!" it never deterred them from calling over and over again, not even my mom asking to be taken off of the call list because they'd be calling for some other person's name and they would still call. So we finally got rid of the land line since we didn't even use it anymore.

I looked up a guy while he was trying to convince me he was calling from BT. Told him the evidence I found about his number. He stammered. I hung up.

Omg this happens everyday to my home phone. We hardly ever answer the phone now because we always think that its gonna be one of those calls.

I never accept calls I don't know, nor open the doors to people I don't know, unless its a deliveryman.
EDIT: I had my swimming carnival on Thursday and we had to walk from the leisure center to the station. No-one knew this suburb well, so we got lost. We asked a kind Indian man who had a daughter that looks 7-8 and he offered to drive us to the station. We declined because nice people could do horrible things. I might have been lost forever if I was dumb ;-;.

Yes. I get them a lot on my home phone. This one guy was calling everyday, and saying that he was a police officer and that I would be in a lot of trouble if I didn't call this number that he kept repeating. The funny thing is, he had this very strong accent ( not sure where from ), and he said his name was officer Mike Smith. It got to the point where I would pick on him whenever he called. After picking on him a couple of times, he finally stopped calling.

I hate it when they say there is a problem with your credit card. I just hang up on them.

Depending on how I feel, I'll either just hang up and blacklist the number, or I'll pretend to be some random takeaway place and they usually just hang up on me then...then I blacklist the number.

Lol, yes. Always from like India too or local people here. They are so fail cause they either have long non-legit numbers or secret so of course I hang up lol.

I'm the same way. I'm rather antisocial and I'm not going to waste my time talking to strangers.

However, if I answered the phone and someone was trying to scam me, I'd have fun messing with them. If a legit company had reason to talk to me about an account, they'd be able to verify who they are. Like my credit card company, for instance. If you call me, you give me some details before we'll discuss anything further.

I don't think I've ever had anyone call me and try to scam me, but for some reason Chase the bank always calls me and says I owe money or whatever, but I don't have a Chase account.

That's a scam. It's like when you get e-mails from "eBay," but you don't have an eBay account; it's not really eBay who is trying to contact you.
