It makes sense though. Perhaps there is a shower-fairy who cleans your hair at night, but can't when you wear a hat.

My second character (who I rarely play) wears the cat hood and has the hat hair. I don't know about bed hair though, I've never left one of my characters that long.
I know for a fact that you can get bedhead as a male for sleeping for too long.
As for females, I dunno, but if you have access to male hairstyles, pick the top of the bar for casualness, and the first option supplied each time and Harriet will style your hair to bedhead.

Yes, hat hair happens. I've heard if you wear the same hat for 15 days you get the hat hair. It's never happened to me, so the 15 days might be off, but it definitely happens.
I don't think there's such a thing as hat hair. All through summer, I've worn hats on my character and hardly changed out of it. There was never any "hat hair".
There is such a thing as bed head for females though. It happens when you don't play a three weeks/a month or longer.
