All month I've been working on my newest attempt at a town(Starview).
I have 2 villagers left to move in/out, my wishlist is complete(-9 items), my main street is missing Katrina, and I've gotten all my paths down. Sounds good, right? Until I found 1 tiny problem.
I've grown detached to my town.

Every time I load my mayor, I end up playing Puzzle League until I get bored, then play something else. I don't tend to my town anymore. My map is really cramped. I don't even know why I chose it, rocks are all over the place and they've disrupted my paths and project placements so many times.. All my villagers are annoyed at me for not talking to them for over a week.. But I don't even like them anymore, either.

Anyone else ever felt(or currently feel) detached to their town(s)? What did you do in this kind of situation? Reset/Sell to Tom Nook immediately? Did you tear down everything and re-landscape your entire town? Did you move out all your current villagers and look for new ones? Did you take a break for a while and come back? I have no idea what to do. :/

This happened to me with my old town, and I just reset. It was bittersweet but it helped me a lot! I appreciate my new town a lot more now

Mist people here feel the same. I'm not too picky about my town. I'm more picky about who gets to live in my town.

I've found that having set goals that can't be accomplished right away helps me to keep going, even when the day-to-day tasks get a little boring. That being said, sometimes it's the goals that are frustrating--taking a break for a little while also helps a lot.

ugh, yes. this has happened to me ALOT, but what i did was set myself some goals, like tearing down everything and just completely re-do my town. i'm really glad i did, because now my town is looking ALOT better than it did a few months ago and i can't stop playing!

Hmm.. I've walked around my town a little bit, and I still can't find anything positive about my map.. I'm starting to hate it.
Other than that, I see setting goals is a good idea. Resetting doesn't seem too awful either.. (I'll need to get 50 days so I can appraise my town. I'll just TT for that. I've already got 50 hours)
(Well.. No on taking a break. I've taken several breaks from this game(including one that lasted 2 months) already, and I'd hate to take yet another one..)

I felt detached to my town for a little while. It felt like a project that would never get done. Then one day out of boredom I decided to play. Ever since I've been tending to my town and trying to be more social with my villagers. My town is still a mess, having common flowers everywhere and my storage a mess. But at least I'm actually paying attention more.

Honestly joining TBT made me even more attached to my town. It's also making me want a second copy for a multitude of reasons ^^ I want that new town feeling again.

I keep running around and talking with my villagers seeing how things going, checking tasks which I can accomplish and occasionally I play puzzle league.

Can't just focus in minigames like Puzzle League, after all it would defeat the very purpose of having New Leaf.

That sort of happened to me after I bought the game and played a few months (though I put very little effort into the town and didn't really care about who my villagers were at the time).

Long story short, I stopped playing for 2 years then came back to it. I never really found too much enjoyment in the game due to stress of the real world occupying my mind and daily life. It kind of seemed like a chore, rather than a game at the time, tbh.

When I did come back to my town, I found it a bit nostalgic and couldn't bring myself to reset. Though there are days where I don't feel like playing. To remedy that I just reset my 3DS' clock/date and just play for a couple hours to catch up to the current date.

Hopefully you can find a solution to your problem! Personally, I think you shouldn't reset after you put all that hardwork in, but if you need that fresh start, go for it. :)

This happens to me all the time. Sorry to say that I don't have any good advice. Usually when I feel this way, I just don't play for months at a time, which makes my town get overgrown with ugly flowers and I lose some villagers. I don't really recommend resetting unless you're really set on it tbh because you may regret it later. Since you said that you don't like your villagers, you might wanna consider replacing them with newer ones with designs that you like.

It's happened to me before. What I did was just try to change things around my town. Unless what you hate are permanent things, you can always change everything else instead of resetting.

This happens to me all the time and yet I've never reset. I just play the game for a few weeks, get bored, leave it a few months, repeat. You can't really force yourself to want to do something, so I think you should do whatever feels right. Put the game down or reset, it's up to you. :)

Well I've been thinking about it all day(and last night, stood up to 1am) and I've ultimately decided to reset my town on 1/10/17. I'll be going to see relatives that I haven't seen in months for Christmas this weekend(yay for family road trips). Turns out I'll be taking a pretty long break after all.

My town's a lost cause.
The map is unsalvageable and I just can't stand looking at it(or my villagers) anymore. I've tried to make it look better(tore down some trees and placed flowers and paths where it looks empty, and added some random pwps), but it still looks awful and cramped. My campsite and Caf? are in awful spots and I can't make them look pretty no matter what I do.
I can change certain things about my town.. But not the map or permanent projects..
