Has this ever happened to you?

So the other week my boyfriend had Rosie come up to him saying she was going to be leaving the next day, he had already been told a week prior by some of the other villagers, but she wouldn't ping when he walked by her or talked to her, not until the day before. So before he even agreed we started a post to sell her on here so he could make some money, and then after we posted the thread he clicked the "Ok, bye" option and then she laughed and said something like, "Oh silly, I can't leave this town, I'll stay and change your mind" or something like that! Has that even happened to anyone?

I've had villagers who came up saying they had second thoughts but you could still make them leave, but this had never happened to me before? Do you think maybe it could be because he waited so long to respond?

My villagers do that all the time, I think it is just random. If you shut off the game without saving after they say that they will still move out on the day they said they would.
