Sadly, I believe they did. I never got to try it out myself. Its probably to prevent crashes.

What is a net glitch?
get your net, hold A, face an object and sneak forward as slow as possible. you'll probably notice it working and keep sneaking through. people have used this to get on top of buildings, through the gate, etc. there was even a glitch by using the net glitch that allowed you to get stags very quickly. (there's a utube video of it)
it's a shame it got patched... i would use it all the time when i'm bored to walk on rivers & stuff :'(

It always bothers me how companies just love to patch harmless little fun glitches like this yet leave larger game-breaking glitches unpatched such as my game usually crashing when at Tortimer Island. It makes no sense!
