Has anyone else not decorated their island at all?

It's been over 7 months since the game released and I still haven't officially decorated my island. I'm being pulled in way too many different directions when it comes to the theme I want my island to have. I like cottage core, but I also love a more suburban feel. Maybe I'll try to incorporate them? Idk. :/

Seriously, my island is BARREN. I went as far as removing all cliffs, rivers, and furniture. I even moved all my flowers to the beach. I kept flowers and flower colors I know I like, so maybe I'll start with what fits my color scheme

idek what my theme is and it doesn't really look, well amazing. I think it would be fun to do a fairytale theme, but if you aren't into that then you do what suits you best. Mine is just animal crossing themed. There are some things that are very suburban and some things that are a little more cottage core. If you need inspiration, you should look at Mxmtoon's town. She is my inspiration and kind of what I'm going for. What do you think?

I didn’t want to decorate, but I was forced to do it to get my island to 5 stars in 1 day because someone gave me a golden watering can and it triggered the nook mile achievement for it. I wanted the date I got the watering can to match the date my island reached 5 stars, so I had to force the star rating up by putting stuff everywhere. I’m happy with it now, but I still prefer more empty islands.

im barely starting animal crossing and i already have a theme in mind that im trying to go for my island but my iin house theme will be different since ive acquired some mermaid diys

im also in the same boat as u with liking the cottagecore/naturey aesthetic but also suburban themes as well, so i decided id try my hand at a small town type situation where my resident rep's house is off in its own area with farms and stuff while my villagers live close to a town with dirt roads and all that. i'd like to make it look a lil dilapidated and out of date with wooden wells and stuff, tho i also still like a cleaner and modern look. but i must say that i haven't personally tried out this theme yet as my island is still less than a month old, but it's nice to discuss ideas.

even though it's painful to make mistakes sometimes, i still think it's better to just go out and try things and if it doesn't work then redo it. i guess that's easier to do with placing furniture and plants, though. if you're trying to do terraforming it can be a bit harder to fix if it goes wrong, so i'd suggest maybe taking a picture of your whole map, and when you get down to terraforming individual areas maybe take pictures of those areas beforehand so if u mess up u at least have a frame of reference for if u try to fix it.

i think you could try to do one theme fully and then over time try to incorporate the other theme into it as well. in my opinion, it'd be easier to go with suburban neighborhoods and such first because those are less fully detailed than most cottagecore looks ive seen. but u can always do it the other way around.

it's always stressful to decorate your island, but i hope that over time u can make your island into something you love. it'll take some time and effort, but as long as the end product's nice i think it's worth it.

I've spent most of my time decorating and furnishing my house up until this point, I've only just recently started terraforming and putting some decorations around and I am So intimidated!! my island suddenly feels Huge and I have no idea where to put things or how to decorate to make it look nice and not forced

I still haven't changed my island much from its original layout. Just haven't been motivated to do it. Not very fun to lack motivation for your favorite game series but I'm confident I'll get started with it eventually.

Once I finally start decorating I plan on having a mushroom theme, combined with a few others.

I mean, it took me 5 months in to do some heavy terraforming and decorating on my island. Don't feel rushed to hurry it up or anything; we all have different paces. It'll probably take me another 5 months to complete the rest because I'm waiting for new buildings or anything else to be added to the game, lol.

While I do have one theme, I kind of want my map to grow as you wander further away from the airport. Near the airport is town/all man-made etc and near the secret beach it becomes jungle-like. You can use something like that with cottage-core and suburban terrain.

I'm the same, my island has been flattened and empty since I unlocked terraforming lol :[ I spent 3 days decorating and I really liked it, but it lasted like 2 days then i tore it down and its back to being flat! I had a mix of cottagecore/urban city, i think its a cute mix tbh!

but seriously, I just keep the flat parking lot look and just decorate my house xD

While I can’t say my island is barren, I feel like my ideas are going all over the place. I wanted to make my island medieval (dragon age specifically) but now i have a bit of middle eastern, japanese, pirate and dragon age. At the moment, I’m not too worried about it since I really love a lot of my designs and I am determined to make them work with each other :). I’ve only had my game since the end of May. I did rush when I got some ideas when i knew what furniture i needed, but atm, I’m out of ideas, so I am taking it slower and spending a lot of time at harv’s studio experimenting (and trying to come up with mini stories to try to guilt trip my bud about voiding some villagers I like :P). I’ve visited some islands with no theme or multiple mini themes and they somehow made it work. It is probably because of that in addition to being determined to make my ideals work with each other, that I’m not too worried about the end result yet. I’m focusing more on just coming up with any idea and experimenting with the furniture and terraforming options.

How does one define a "decorated island" anyway?

Honestly, it's a representation of yourself. Even a barren land can look presentable to me. (I saw someone who made an endless desert before as a theme.)

I decorated it, but its still incomplete.
Idk how long it'll take me to finish decorating my whole island to be honest.

Mine is not really barren, but I don't think every corner of an island needs to be filled for it to be considered decorated. I quite like having some space left that's empty/more natural, it leaves room for gameplay activities when I need it.

I suppose that if I ever want to make areas like that again, they'll probably just be in a new character home. Especially with more bad weather and the winter season approaching, seeing cafes, libraries, gyms and such outside just feels a little off. :)

Over time I'll probably think of good stuff to put outside, but for now, I'm fine with what I have!

Mine is pretty much complete.

Then again, I don't really have a set theme.
....Or maybe the theme is "nature"? I don't know.

I have a bakery, a play ground, green house, music area, orchard, picnic place, a hotel, a mini library, and and library + outdoor beach diner.
Most of my beaches are filled too.

I'm too lazy to commit to a theme and then getting bored of it & change it later on :ROFLMAO:

I have done a lot of decorating at this point but there were a few months where I had no idea what I wanted to do and my island was mostly covered in flower breeding fields. Then I started working on one area after getting inspired and having an idea and after that I have started decorating more and more. There are still plenty of trash or spare flowers/trees/bushes filled, or empty areas around my island but I'm getting closer to decorating more.

I say don't be afraid to try things out! You can always demolish it all again and retry. If you see something you think is cute online, try to do something similar or take inspiration from it! I couldn't decide on one theme so at the moment I have a city area, a forest and natural area, and a kidcore area. I like it a lot and that's what matters to me :')
