I am starting to lose my mind.

I have crafted and used over 150 pieces of bait. Which in itself is soooooooo time consuming because you run around your island searching for clams, dig them up and then painstakingly craft bait one by one.

I always stand on the pier and use bait but I have never seen marlin or tuna once. There was one fairly big shadow which got away in that time but only one. I've spent two days grinding so far. Has anyone else had any better luck?

Please help XD

Caught them both a couple days into the game without bait, you must be incredibly unlucky :/

it took me a while for sure! i actually caught both of mine off the dock on a nook miles island (just a regular native fruit/flower one) - i got lucky and didn't need to use bait but you definitely can! i know you can get big fish islands as well. you might have more luck with those !!

Got three tuna and a blue marlin within I thin 52 bait? All at the end of the pier I made sure to chase away any small fish

I caught both. Blue Marlin came multiple times before I got a Tuna. It’s really just RNG. Spent a bunch of baits when I was hunting for the Barreleye? Didn’t get one. Got one right after my baits ran out while I was randomly fishing. Keep at it and good luck :) One thing I noticed is the larger fishes cause the joy cons to rumble harder as well.

I used so much bait to try and catch them and funny enough I got them from random spawns that I decided to check out

Unfortunately it just sounds like you're really unlucky. I've caught a handful of both of those fish the past couple weeks ;;

I have better luck on the nook islands catching pier fish than I do on my own island.

I think it is because the dock has more spawn places than our own island's pier fish spawn places... so, maybe try your hand on one of the islands? I usually will run around back and forth in the island catching other fish, too, so it is as mind numbing.

I used 50 bait trying to catch a tuna one night with no luck. Crafted a bunch again and it appeared on my first try the night after -- it really is just down to luck! don't be disheartened. I'm still yet to find a blue marlin though so that is todays challenge. :lemon:

I caught them with my first 100 fish bait batch, but then I struggled sooooo much to catch Char (I wasted over 500 fish bait to catch that cursed fish), so I believe it's just RNG.

I caught both a couple nights ago. I'm really sorry to hear that you are having awful luck. I hope those fishies appear for you soon. I'm currently seeking out the elusive barreleye myself

Ive only caught 2 blue marlins with no bait :o i dont use baits x.x Since i always end up forgetting them after crafting them... But no Tuna yet..

How can RNG be programmed to be so punishing!?

Even if you said a fish has 1% chance of spawning, that should still appear 1 in everyone 100. I think if a fish appears less than that then it is just infuriating.

I am going to buy a trip to an island to see if it helps! Wish me luck XD

Fortunately, this is a fish that shows up year-round, so I wouldn't sweat it if you don't catch one for the month of April.

But I gotta agree with you that the fish bait strat is tedious which is why I don't really use it unless I'm getting desperate and I know the fish will disappear soon XD.

I caught both without bait on the mystery island. I’ve had much better luck there for rare fish

I've caught one Marlin so far, I'm pretty sure I missed one on the pier as well.

I caught a Tuna not too long ago! Didn’t take too many bait to catch either. I think it was raining when I caught it.

I've caught several of both.

It's the barreleye and neon tetra that have been evading me so far.
