But the church influences peoples decisions.
Exactly. But it's not the government saying that those people have to believe what they want is it?
That would be a sort of church-state thing, not this.
But Church Influences people, who elect officials. So, politicians are always trying to appeal to the majority religion, in this case, Christianity.
America is and never was a Christian nation.
Under law, no.
In reality, yes.

@Mega: I believe you mean all religions.

I don't see why Christians don't want gay marriage.

I mean, he sees equality in all, and loves all :P

Well that's what I believe as a Christian.

Of course, there are Christians and Christians with no open mind :S

I hate that. Make my religion look bad .-.

Ok, I've been doing tons of research recently on what the Bible states about homosexuality.

Basically the argument is that God created marriage between a woman. The two are different and compliment each other.
In a gay relationship you can't truly experience what God planned for a heterosexual relationship. Since there are two guys both parts are masculine (though many gay men are insecure in their masculinity) and you don't really get to experience the feminine side to compliment the masculine. And no, being effimate is not the same as being feminine.
There can still be healthy relationships between two members of the same sex without being sexual. David told Jonathan that his love (as a friend, not a partner) was better than that of woman.

That's what they believe, so don't flame me.

I could be wrong, but from everything I've heard from people, Jesus was a pretty compassionate guy. That's why I don't understand all the animosity regarding gay marriage. If they're supposed to be learning from him and being more like him, then why be so hateful? Just color me confused. @_@

As an ex/post-gay I've seen the worst of Christian and pro gay supporters. It's not pretty.

Both sides hate us, with a few exceptions.

Take the story of the adulteress. Jesus had compassion for her when he could have had her stoned.
He didn't say what she did was right, but he said "Go now and sin no more."

More people should be like Him.

Do me a favor and read this. It's a long read, but it's worth it.

Haha, sometimes. XD

Well it is just Dc, though that can still be overturned... :(

Either way I can't consider it a sin because I do not believe that sex is a sin. Lust is a sin, but lust is to sex as gluttony is to food, overindulgence in it, not simply having it.

I am so glad I live in an area that is supportive rather than hurtful, though I have met some people who are clearly against gay people...
