On the animal crossing wiki it says that if you bury a shovel for a day it will turn into a golden shovel but whenever I do that it doesn't change. Any Ideas

That's what you do in previous games of the series. In this game, you have to buy 50 bags of Fertilizer from Leif before he gives it to you.

This is how you obtain a Golden Shovel in the pevious game for the Nintendo DS, Animal Crossing: Citiy Folk. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the 3DS and 2DS you have to purchase at least 50 fertilizer bags from Leif once the Nookling Store is a T&T Emporium.

related, I hope the next game has a better variety in how to obtain special tools than BUY X OF Y ITEM THAT ALWAYS HAS NEXT TO NO STOCK

I mean its cool they changed it (even though it wasted me 500 bells), but still.... its kinda awful in NL imo

3 tools (golden axe, golden shovel, silver can) need to buy a bunch of items (even worse considering fertilizer is really the only thing worth it imo)
3 tools (silver shovel, silver rod, silver net) in museum shop once donated x amount of certain items
2 tools (golden rod, golden net) standard catch all of x creatures
1 tool (golden can) standard perfect town for 2 weeks
1 tool (silver axe) island

ignoring the catch all and perfect town ones which are perfectly reasonable rewards for their goals, and maybe island because hey gotta have something for it, and MAYBE the silver rod/net because regardless it'll probably have a really similar method to obtain

all the rest are kinda really dumb imo and I feel they could've been implanted better
