What counts toward a gold angler badge?

Does the fishing on the island count and can you release the fish after having them in your inventory?

I'm pretty sure fishing on the island counts (but I'm not sure about the tours), since that's where I've done most of my fishing. I would think that it doesn't matter if you release them, but I can't say for sure.

Tours don't count, else I'd have a filled catalogy already

I got my gold badge during the summer and used the island. To keep count I put a shell in my pocket and went fishing.
On the 16th fish your pocket will be full. At that time I switch out a low price fish. Kept all the high price sharks and rare fish.
The rest I sold to the girl. Drop a shell on the ground and picked another one up. Repeated.
Tried to catch 100 fish each day. After that I started to hit the A button to early.

All the fish caught on the island counted. The ones on the tours don't. I think the gold angler fishing and the streetpass badge are the hardest ones to get. It's probably easy for those that like to fish.
The bug one is the easiest one.

I've been trying to get that gold badge for a month now. My objective is to catch at least 50 fish a day. I haven't seen Phineas in quite a while.
