So I finally have a natural move-out in my game after about 2 months and I'm so ready to go Island hopping tomorrow.
Initially, I thought that when I do that and happen to come across any popular villagers, I'd recruit them just to do giveaways for them.
However; given that I don't TT and it literally takes me months to move out someone I don't want, I think I'll just look for someone for myself instead.
Also, looking at the New Neighbor Network, it seems kinda dead with people just continuously trading/selling the same bunch of villagers.
So my main focus tomorrow is going to be jock and snooty villagers.
I'm pretty open but I'm mainly looking for Mac or Louie. I was initially thinking of Drift, Tad or Frobert but given that I already have two frogs as my permanent villagers, I thought having a bit more variety might be nice.
For snooties I'd like Olivia, Monique, Tiffany, Mallary, Gigi, Kitty, Tipper, or Portia.

I suppose the only other villagers that are not these personalities that I'd consider are Merengue, Freckles, Kiki or Bea.

Anyway, no idea what chances I have of encountering any of the villagers listed. I have a good number of NMT's saved up plus quite a few Nook Miles I could just use to buy more tickets so let's see what happens. I'm excited to hunt down some villagers and, hopefully, catch some fish and bugs along the way.

Only tip I have after using 600 tickets is watch something while you do it. Have a ladder and pole. If you care about getting bells and items, make sure you check beaches for DIY and shake the trees for the one item.

Also, villager species is rolled first and then its randomly rolled again within species so no tips there!

I don't really have any advice since it's all random but I just wanted to say good luck! I just went island hopping the other day and it can get kind of tedious. I didn't have a specific villager in mind but I ended up finding Skye and inviting her to my island and I love her so far!

second the ladder and pole.

There really isn't much you can do, having your options open is a good thing thou. I've came across the same villager 2 or 3 times while island hopping.

I would say take advantage of the islands you go to. Raid the wood, shake the trees for wasps, wasp nests and furniture. Steal all the fruits and good shells, pluck the weeds, do some fishing or bugging if there ars any good critters. If it's bamboo island raid it. Bamboo sells for line 1.5k a tree. It's extremely time consuming but at the very least, if you don't get a villager you want, you have lots and I mean lots, of wood, along with other stuff to sell, and possibly more items to your catalogue.

Also, check the beaches! You might find bottle messages. Bring plenty of fruit, I like to bring 30, incase I want to take trees. I wish you luck in your island hopping journey, may the random percentages be in your favour.

Island hopping is the thing I love to do most when I can’t do it but hate to do most when I need to do it. Lol. Advice? Just roll with the RNG. Oh and beware of Tipper, she’s kinda a stalker.

Island hopping is really just about luck, but it depends on who you're after anyway. From my experience, I'd be more inclined to just use the New Neighbour Network since you could potentially save yourself from spending all your NMTs, as well as time. Even if you do create a post in the "looking for" thread, that thread has a bit of activity still, and you might get lucky with someone who might have a villager you're interested in.

For me, island hopping is fun for the first 20 or so trips, but after that, it just gets repetitive and grinding. Especially if you constantly get the same island variations. I know you're probably more concerned about who the villager visiting the island is, but I kinda like to make the most out of these trips by collecting resources and catching any rare fish or bug it's there.

Best of luck though with whichever you decide to do :)

I’m in the same boat as you!! Hopefully it goes well for both of us! I’ll second what other people have said about gathering resources, I use island hopping to stock up on wood and stuff.

I was in the same boat; I don't TT and it took me a whole month until someone naturally moved out! These are tips from my experience:
  • Don't go in with expectations if you have your heart set on a small set of villagers (there is a chance that you may get lucky, but it is low).
  • Don't be disheartened; prepare for seeing duplicate villagers. In one island hopping session, I got the same set of villagers 3-4 times in a few hours timespan!
  • Multitasking is great; I was catching up on Netflix shows while I was island hopping.
  • On each island, there's always going to be 1 furniture item and 1 wasp hive hiding in the trees (unless you get bamboo/fruit island). I always find the furniture item before I leave (for catalog purposes).
  • Scan the beaches for a DIY recipe bottle. Sometimes, they show up.
  • Most importantly, take breaks.
Good luck!

I wanna try Island Hopping just because it's been SO long.
Since my list of villagers is quite broad, I'm hopeful I'll be able to run into someone I can be happy to have as a temporary resident at least.
I'll also gather resources. I guess if I don't find anyone, I'll give NNN a try.

Good luck! I’m in the same boat as you~

After what felt like ages I ~finally~ had someone move out so I’m excited to go island hopping tomorrow! :) (it wasn’t even someone I want gone, but I have their amiibo so I took it haha)

My advice had already been said, but don’t go in looking for anyone specific. Someone you least expect might click with you.

Honestly I feel this. I LOVE watching videos and dreaming about it, but by the 20th ticket I'm over it lol.

Check the beachs for DIYs, check for the fossil, shake the trees for items, and see the villager. I sent a time limit for myself instead of tickets so it was less stressful. Like if I didn't find someone I want before work or during my luck break, I would just take whoever was best and not dreamie when I looked in the evening.

Unrelated to finding the villagers you want but my advice is to take axes and chop down the trees. It’s a way you can take advantage of all the trees that are up and go for the golden axe diy.

I look forward to island hopping. I love the anticipation of seeing who will be on the island. Best of luck!

I don't have any advice other than have a good playlist or something fun to watch while you do it, but I want to wish you the best of luck! It's good you have a few ideas of who you want already and you're not focusing in on one specific villager too. Island hopping can be a lot of fun so have fun with it!

All good advice above! The only tidbit I'd add is make sure you don't do any trades between visits/until you recruit a villager. I've been running into issues when trading villagers where someone will come over and invite the villager back, but when they go home someone else has moved in, presumably from a previous trades void.

I have been told to just turn off my wifi or put the switch into airplane mode to prevent void move ins, but not sure how true/actually useful that will be!

Good luck hopping tomorrow :D hope you find a cutie!

My only tip is be open! If you find someone you really like but isn't on your list, don't leave right away! Put the game down and think about it for a bit!

I got Julia because of this! She wasn't one I was really hunting for, but I found her and loved her so I invited her. And she's not leaving.

Okay so here's the rundown.
Didn't really come across any of the villagers I was hoping for but after about 20 tickets I was done and settled for Tasha.
The funny thing is the VERY first villager I came across was Iggly who I actually found super cute but I didn't want to settle for the first villager on the FIRST island.
In the end though, I'm not sure how happy I am with my decision but I didn't want to risk it and Tasha seemed cute enough.
I did harvest a lot of the resources, found some new recipes as well which was cool but towards the end I was a bit burned out and hitting rocks felt torturous.
I guess it's a very time-consuming process unless you're just skipping through Islands and not getting the resources but I feel guilty about wasting NMT's.

The good:
  • I came across many different villagers, which was nice since I didn't actually see many of them in-game. Didn't get any dupes save for Norma who used to be my previous Island resident and Naomi whose amiibo card I have.
  • I got a couple new recipes.
  • I got some materials and was happy to come across bamboo and money rock Islands. I also got some gold nuggets which is always neat.

The ugly:
  • It's very time-consuming.
  • It's kind of exhausting to the point where I neglected doing my normal Island chores today and my eyes were hurting big time. lol...
  • I didn't come across a single villager I was hoping for though my list was quite broad - I guess that just shows you how random it is and that unless you're super lucky or are willing to burn through 100's of tickets, there's a slim chance you'll get who you want.

Would I do it again?
I'm not sure, tbh.
I guess because my Island routines were so monotonous over the past few weeks, I wanted a change so that gave me that. Plus no one had posted the villagers I was looking for on the boards... lol.

I found zucker twice when island hopping recently... I should’ve taken him...

My dream of finding sherb will come true one day...
