I just read a thread that had a gifting guide. The guide says not to give the villagers clothing because once their storage is full, they will start getting rid of the things in their house. I have already given Roald three shirts!! Is that enough for him to give away his furniture?

Am I only supposed to be giving fruit, flooring, rugs, and wallpaper? Is that all we should be giving them? I still have soooo much to learn about this game!

If they do get rid of their furniture, can you ever get it to give back to them?

I think there’s a separate storage limit for clothing and furniture. The storage includes the items already displayed in the house. I think it’s 24 for clothing and 32 for furniture. Gifting them furniture will make them replace certain furniture in their house and that counts towards the total storage. I think the issue was people thought gifting iron wall lamps was safe because it doesn’t get displayed but once you gift them a lot and reach max storage, the villager starts removing furniture even though the lamp still isn’t displayed. If you don’t want to mess with their house you can just gift them 2 non-native fruit giftwrapped. You will raise their friendship just the same.

Yes, you can also gift them their previous furniture that they remove and there’s a chance they’ll display it again.

1, I don't think so, not yet atleast. I've given Stella prob like 3 or 4 shirts, 1 glasses and 2 or 3 hats. She hasn't gotten rid of stuff. She did display a hat and shirt I gave her thou. I gave Tifffany like 3 or 4 shirts, hasn't gotten rid of anythin in her house yet. Gave Dom like 3 or 4 shirts and a hat, still has all his stuff, also for a while displayed the hat I gave him.

I think the animals have an inventory of like 5 or 6 Both Stella and Dom I adopted, and both had like 5 or 6 articles of clothing (hats, face gear ect...) they'd randomly wear from their previous people. I did manage to get Stella to stop wearing all but 1 of her previously owned clothes, Dom has stopped wearing all but 2, but I think this is influenced by both gifts I gave them and their friendship with me.

2, peole have been giving walling, floorings and fruit as to not mess up the furniture in their house. Animals won't use walls/floors, but I think it does go in their inventory, so eventually stuff will get replaced or removed. I'm pretty sure the fruit method is so popular because animals don't store fruits and it won't affect their inventory.

3, I have yet to try this on a non starter animal, but I want to say you can give them furniture back if they get rid of it, however idk if they will display it.

I have given Marina who knows how many pieces of clothing and she hasn't started getting rid of actual furniture yet. I think you have to give a huge number like over 24 or so. Maybe higher? I haven't looked into it myself, honestly. I figure that I would find out when I finally hit the limit.

I'm a big fan of iron wall lamps (wrapped). I think I've given Phoebe at least 40 by now (got her mid-August) and her house still looks normal... If you are really scared you can do wrapped foreign fruit stacks (I thought it had to be 10 not 2 but I'm probably wrong) but sometimes they will give you bells instead.

I gifted my villagers a lot of fossiles and none of them had ever displayed one in their house (even the 1×1 that can be placed on tables) 😉

i have given some villagers a lot of clothes in an attempt for them to get rid of clothes i don't like seeing them in but i haven't been successful, they still wear their ugly clothes. as others have said, the limit is pretty high

I can definitely confirm that you can re-gift villagers their old furniture and they will use it. I did that with Sherb after his blue cute set pieces started getting replaced with random crap he bought from me lol.

I gave Raymond many clothes, in an attempt for him to stop wearing this ugly pink dress (I don't know what i was thinking when I gifted him that)

I've complained to isabelle many many times, he stops wearing it for a while, then will wear it freaking again 😩

Me too.

Either the iron wall lamps or the hanging terrarium works like magic when it comes to getting villager photos.

I also haven't noticed missing furniture w/ most of my villagers (I might not be paying attention idk?)

The only one I've noticed is that Tasha no longer has the incense burner on her table, which isn't a big deal because I can just gift her that. <shrugs>

I think the getting bells part got updated as I haven’t gotten it in return in a long time. The gift amount should be 750 and above so 2 foreign fruits is enough to get a chance at receiving their photo.

I'm not sure if there is any data to back this up, but anecdotally, it seems like the most recent clothes you've given them get a higher priority (as long as it fits their preferences). So if you give them 5 shirts, they will wear the 4th and 5th shirts more than the 1st. I could be wrong on this or it could be totally random, but that seems to be what I've noticed. Curious if anyone else has had this experience.

Be careful gifting iron wall lamps!
They do store them and if they get to the stored limit they will remove things hanging from their wall. People have had the cute star lights in Judy's house get taken down (for example) by gifting too many iron wall lamps.

I like to gift a stack of 5 foreign fruit gifted wrap. I do 5 because they sell for 2500 which is important because: Gifting an item that would get 2500+ bells at Nook's Cranny will make the villager give an item of furniture in return. Furthermore, receiving an item will reward bonus friendship points, the amount depending on the current level of friendship This is how I recently got Kiki's photo with relate ease. I also gift clothes I think the villager would look good in. Also assessed fossils that are worth at least 2500 are great to give.
