I think that?s also partially because the DS and Wii Wi-Fi servers shut down in 2014. Unfortunately, the same thing will happen to the 3DS and Wii U soon enough. We?re just not sure when.

Wait wifi has nothing to do with transfer between like Sun and Moon for instance to Pokemon Home, so you can still do that even with Wi-Fi services cut off
