Can anyone confirm if villagers still have the same gift/color/fav style and song in previous games?

I have Deidre and Fauna and was able to gift them something that coincided with their particular style (historical and basic). I just didn't seem to get quite the reaction I was expecting when comparing to NL.

Anyone else share same/different experiences?

AND...
Does anyone else start to cringe when the dialog opens up and says "This is yours!" Knowing that you have nothing in your pockets that you want to give? I grab my ACNL guide book or look at thonky real quick ;)

I just confirmed it by giving Zucker a cafe uniform (which was his fav gift ACNL) and he changed into it immediately.

honestly, i didnt even think about giving my villagers their favorite gifts and i feel a bit bad now lol. i just always give them my native fruit as a gift in person and with a letter because they dont really sell for much, ive been eating my eggs instead, and i dont rly need anymore cherry trees atm. maybe when i get a bit more bells and my catalog has more stuff in it i may try to do that, but i also dont want to give them too many things that their outfits are all over the place and their houses no longer look as good as they did.

I don't cringe at all when that dialogue box opens. It get happy because I feel like I'm finally getting close enough and becoming friendly with them. I give them a gift when I am good and ready to do so. So far, Hamlet has gotten the most gifts because I've been getting sporty stuff!

Well, not cringe but if I know I have something in my pockets that could devalue our friendship and have to default to an insect or something of that nature I get sketched.

Do you mind if I ask why? I honestly don't even hit that option until I have something for them. I am just glad they don't put you on the spot like they did in New Leaf! It even gives me the chance to wait for wrapping paper and wrap up the gift nicely for them if I feel like it.

I gifted Buck (jock) a shirt I think that was sort of fancy and I know he changed into it but he still stated that it wasn't something he'd usually wear.
But when I gifted him a cycling shirt/scooter/golf bag he was pretty enthusiastic and stated that he loves that sort of stuff.

I am not sure how ACNH game mechanisms are compared to NL, so I don't have facts. When prompted I always want to give them something that they like because I think there is a measurement in place. Historically, that is how every AC game is played.

However, I find it more likely this particular mechanism is for newer players who need aid figuring out what said villagers fav color/song/style/coffee etc.

Yes, that is what I am referring to. Villagers will drop hints to what they like. So, if one is not familiar with previous gameplay or villagers they can use that as a resource.
