Ghosting on a trade?

For people who have been ghosted while hosting turnips, villager DIY things or any sort of NPC/store visits, I'd heavily recommend turnip.exchange for giving out dodo codes to the masses. You can manually kick people if they do not show up and hog the #1 spot in queue, and people will come and go automatically with little to no input from you. Saves the heartache of having to manually PM everyone!

Yes I've been ghosted on trades before, and it's frustrating. But remember, it isn't always because the person is flaky or being rude. This is just a game after all and real life takes priority. We do not know if the reason they ghosted us is because something awful in their real life has happened. As much as it sucks to be ghosted on a trade, try to maintain compassion because you don't know what they may be going through that made them disappear. That's how I try to think when it happens to me :)

Though if you are at the stage of a trade where someone's already ordered items for you, you should honestly just tough it out and go through with the trade.

Yeah, I’ll admit there have been a few times where between the seller ordering the item and the actual trade, I’ve come across the item through other means, but I’ve gone through with the trade anyway because I’d feel bad if I cancelled after they already ordered the item for me ;w;

So, I actually had ghosting happen to me last week and asked a mod about negative feedback and they responded saying that you actually can. But, I would clarify with a mod for your situation if it ever came to this! They will protect you from retaliation if your situation is valid! Everyone deserves to know your experience with others!
That's somewhat comforting to hear? The user I mentioned in my previous post was guilt trippy/passive aggressive and so my first reaction was to just disengage entirely because it wasn't worth my time but also i didn't want to make the situation worse. I try to avoid the people I've had negative experiences with on here ;;

That's really nice! I think most sellers would understand if this would happen unless it's one of those big catalog orders, but you're really one of the best buyer types a seller could hope for :)

I've ghosted only one person once after being offered an unreasonable amount for the large amount of things i was willing to go out of my way to order them after explaining that it took a lot of time and effort to get everything. other times, its been out of accident because i cycle through so many PMs, certain messages get buried underneath. Often I leave someone a message and if they don't respond I move on with my life! I always try to be fair to everyone, but everyone is human and makes mistakes. And you can't always tell why someone ghosts you in the first place, I think?
I'm glad that you shared this, this is something I try to consider if a situation where I happened to be ghosted ever occurred. I personally don't like intentional ghosting. I would prefer if someone was brave enough to back down from a trade which is disappointing but preferred at times. However I don't have anything against you or anyone who might do it intentionally even though it feels wrong to me, because I would happen to feel like a bad person if I did it to someone. But when you're in an uncomfortable position I get that it's hard to confront someone when you're scared like that or if things get awkward and you don't want any bad feelings. But what I really feel may be a thing that happens more often is the accidental ghosting. Sometimes people PM me and somehow I still miss the notifications even with the forum notifications and my real world email on top of that. It can happen. I don't think that I've done it but maybe I have and just don't realize it! Most people are pretty forgiving around here though. At least the people I've met. :)

I totally under stand... D: at least you can avoid them! It really sucks that they treated you that way!

I agree! The kind people I've met here outweigh the bad! If anything, I think trading with other who are not treating you with fairness has taught me to speak up for myself more often and politely close a situation without any further negative confrontation... Since there are some entitled users out here who aren't very fair or act like the whole world should be given to them, from mine and my friends experiences.

But I totally relate to missing a notification too, I'm guilty of that! 😭 Or I say I'll respond and something comes up and I completely forget!

I'm sorry if you've had any bad experiences but that fact that you were able to grow from them in a way by knowing how to better defend yourself when being picked on or pushed around is wonderful. I'm also glad to hear that you're staying positive. I'm trying to become more trusting of people myself, and it's hard at times, even with a silly video game. I'm getting there though! This forum, while it may have an occasional storm of negativity here and there, is still by far the best community I've been a part of!

aaa my heart is so warm reading that! 🥺 there's been a lot of negativity since the release of new horizons but... I promise the kind people are out there! I've met some really wonderful people since the release of the game and its made me so happy to be part of this place again. Being trusting of people is scary sometimes since you don't want someone running off with items or whatever you are trading. I always am very cautious and relay rules and double check on people if they haven't responded to me for a day or two asking if they are still interested... Sometimes people never respond and that is okay! I tell myself that eventually you will get what you are looking for, through one means or another. you just have to be patient for it :)

Yea this is why anything I do I put a time limit on. Once the time passes, the trade agreement is voided. Though I can see how this can't be applied to a villager you have in boxes or something you ordered from the catalog, you're kinda on a loss there and in that situation I would leave negative feedback...for an item you already had though and wasn't a loss I'd just avoid them in the future but not sure I'd leave feedback.

I don't use the forum on my phone so that may also be a factor.
So generally when I'm looking for trades I'm at home and on my desktop so I'm available as I'm looking.

I think what really worries me about this in regards to ordering nook mile ticket items is I'm not a time traveler, so I can't just *zoom* to the next day or something. If I had ordered an item for someone, that's using up nook mile points (which I feel like I'm really slow with earning as well). So if I ordered something for someone and they just decided to ghost me, it would be a hard hit for me.

Literally aspiring to have this mindset right now. I'm a naturally fast paced person. I think, talk, and act quickly for the most part. I get impatient with certain things like villagers moving in and out, trading with people, etc. I'm pretty good at not being a turd as a result of being impatient but I'd rather just not be impatient. I did a tiny bit of TTing when moving villagers in and out just because I couldn't enjoy the game thoroughly when I had animals I disliked, but I still feel a wee bit of guilt for doing it (no one made me feel guilty except for myself), so now I don't do that anymore because I want to practice being patient. I'm waiting the full 3 days to move amiibo in, and I never rush anybody in a trade. I'm trying to make sure I don't send too many messages to them when arranging the trades, and another thing I'd like to work on is making my posts much for concise since I've also posted some pretty big text walls haha! Not to sound like a brown-noser but you sound like a great person to connect with!

I ghosted a trade in Discord once, I was looking for Fang and offered IGB or amiibo villagers but when they saw my ABD balance and wanted my bells in exchange for NMT. (I wanted to show proof that I was not lying of having IGB) I went to browse their post history and came to the conclusion they're dodgy as hell. (They wanted to drop 10 NMT per full invo bells which is 4mil and they wanted to exchange 100 NMT to IGB.) Thought that was extremely sketchy and just stopped responding.

Sometimes ghosting a trade that seems sketchy isn't bad. The new AC players have such a nasty spirit to the point of scamming others that it's best to be more careful.

I get where you're coming from. I wanna disclose that I did TT a tiny bit but never once used it for shopping, bells, or miles. Those were still something I grind for on a daily basis or trade for on here. So when the game first came out I was spending a lot of my gameplay just grinding out miles for tickets to islands and items for town, and also in game abilities and upgrades. The items you get with miles are so expensive, the minimum for many of them being 1k and only going up. I'm okay on miles now because I don't spend them like I used to now that I have my miles upgrades and don't visit the islands much but as someone who did that grinding for a while, having a trade fail after spending my hard earned miles on something would leave me disappointed for sure. The best thing to do if it did happen though would be to probably repurpose the item for yourself or try to trade it to someone else for something I guess. Still I'd also prefer if that didn't happen to me back when I spent a ton of time trying to get miles lol.

It's only happened to me once recently.
they were ordering a bulk of items from me and even messaged back a few time to add thing to their order.
And then I never heard back from them again.

I've had a few people ghost me after their first message.
But I find it strange for them to be messaging me for a day or two, asking for updates on their order and when it comes to the time that we both agreed upon they ghost me.
I find it hard to understand, but it only takes 2 minutes to send someone a message explaining that you're sorry but you no longer need the order.

I was trading villagers with someone on here, and they got my villager (Bob) and then ghosted on me without giving me Zucker. I'm still a bit annoyed about that, but I got him on an island.

Yeah, I think anything that has to do with multiple day trades such as ordering items for others have the biggest chances of ghosting. It really sucks when it limits you as a player when you've been unfairly burdened by these items if a trade doesn't go through. Luckily, most people are great :) You can always check someone else's feedback before trading with them to see what type of person they are!

Oh don't feel the need to defend yourself time travelling to me. Mairen doesn't mind about that~ I'd like to think I'll someday reach a point where I have lots of spare nook miles and I won't have to worry so much about them.

Honestly, I can't think of anything more frustrating than a villager trade... Since by the time villagers are in boxes to the time you've got an open plot, the window of time is so small

Btw, Felix is amazing! I love your profile pic!
