My forced camper/villager was Lionel. I immediately disliked him (although I love his outfit lol). I tried to ignore him, but felt so rude! My son then tried being mean to him by hitting him with the net until he got sad, but then we both felt terrible! Right after Lionel moved in, I also got Truffles (from a plot I placed). At that point, I was annoyed enough to ignore her. She moved in one day, I saw her out the next day and never talked to her, and she asked to move out the following day. I guess she will be gone, tomorrow... at least I hope she will. So I'm guessing that's what I need to do with Lionel. How long does it typically take to ignore a villager out of the village? I could eventually replace with an amiibo, but I kinda want to see which villagers are randomly placed before using all my amiibos.

I'm not sure if villagers will stick around longer if you talk to them. I try to talk to villagers as often as I can per day. I was doing some time traveling back and forth when I was trying to get stuff from Gullivarrr, and Tangy kept bringing up she wanted to move out, though I denied. So maybe a weeks worth of ignoring will do the trick?

From a villager moving on their own, the cooldown is 2 weeks, before a new villager will ask to move out. Saying no to a villager asking to move out will add 4-7 days to the cooldown if I remember correctly. It's purely RNG on who will ask. Ignoring them won't make a huge difference, the chance is just slightly higher than a villager you have max friendship with.

A week is so loooong lol! I figure I got lucky Truffles wanted to leave so fast... I don't think Lionel will be so easy.

Oh, wow! That's a long time! So they all just randomly ask to move out?? I thought it was based on their relationship with you! Sounds like I have a lot to learn, still. Does hitting them with nets do anything at all?

If you have an amiibo card, kicking him out should be simple from what I've read. Just ignore Lionel. You could time travel forward and make sure any villager other than Lionel doesn't have a thought bubble over their head. You could build a fence around his house and prevent him from interacting with you or others. I kept traveling back and forth through this week and that's how Tangy kept wanting to leave. You don't necessarily have to wait a week.

Hitting them with a net will lower your friendship with them, but friendship only increases or decreases the chance of them asking only slightly. If you're looking to kick one villager and keeping the other nine, you're still more likely to get one of the other nine asking about living on new islands more often than the one you are trying to get rid of.

Build a fence around his house! That's hilarious. It really does sound easier to just use an amiibo. If you time travel and don't check on the villagers, can they eventually move out without asking?

That's a bummer!! I don't want to lose the ones I really like!

As someone above said, if truffles asked to move out and moved out, there will be a 2 week cool down before someone else asks. If you already have not established much friendship with him, I think hitting him with a net won’t help, because I don’t think the friendship level can go into negatives.

and it is primarily rng that determines move out. It is influenced by level of friendship but not too strongly. So yes, a new/ ignored villager may have a slightly higher chance of asking to leave but it by no means guarantees a specific villager will ask to move. Genji is my starter and I’ve gotten his picture twice and he still asks to move out regularly.
And Ike never asked to move out when he was new, even though I purposely cycle the thought bubble so someone asks everyday once I am past the two week cool off (not that I wanted Ike to move out).

If you really want to get rid of Lionel, amiibos would be the least frustrating route. Time travel would also help, but can also get very frustrating.

he was my first camper too, and though he was not my favorite I ended up liking him quite a bit, especially after I gave him a bunch of silly clothes so he may also grow on you. And when he moved out he left me his hot tub, which was also great. Not that you have to like him, but just thought i’

They can leave without asking your permission.

He's already grown on me, I'll admit it! And I bought his outfit at my other son's island when I visited. What kind of clothing did you give him? I gave my other pig a jacket that wound up looking like a gangster outfit and had to report him to make him take it off!

What do you mean by cycling the thought bubble?

 I hope my favorites never leave! To avoid that, you have to talk to them everyday? And not miss their thought bubbles?

No, in this game, villagers will NOT move unless you explicitly give them permission, no matter how far you TT, how long you go without playing, ect.

As far as I know actually they cannot leave without you giving them permission, unlike in other versions of the game. I think the other post may have had a typo? But your villagers will never move out without permission.

I gave him like the superhero suit, coveralls (a bunch of old man sweaters. I found giving him sweaters made him look cozy/ cuddly, which I liked.

the thought bubble cycling is a technique you can use with or without time travel. There are probably better explanations out there but in short:

when you have a villager thought bubbling and you talk to them and it turns out they are asking to move you exit the game without answering them. Then don’t talk to that villager while they have a thought bubble for the rest of the day (only one villager will have the move out thought bubble per day so you can talk to everyone else with a bubble). The next day a different villager will have the thought bubble. By doing this you can avoid having to go through the 4-7 day cool off when you say ‘no’ to a villager who wants to move.
