General question about trading villagers~

Okay so I'm new to this whole thing and see people talking about trading/buying/selling villagers. How is that possible? If someone could explain that process it would be great! I'm currently looking for Marshal and Fauna myself ​

So when the day the villager is leaving they will be in boxes. when a friend wants them you have them come over and they will talk to that villager, the villager will say i need a place to move and you invite them to your place. you can only have 9 villagers in your town so if you do and ask someone to move in your town they won't.
