This is a general music discussion thread, talk about anything related to music!

(Original idea for this thread was from both @ShawnFuzz and me.)

Yes! The idea is to actually discuss music, rather than just posting songs.

Posting a Youtube video, or other link to music, is great! But discussing the song is what is important here! For example, discussing your personal thoughts about the song and why you posted it.

Maybe the song has a personal meaning to you and it would be great to share why! Or maybe the song has a personal memory attached that makes you feel happy! I can think of a few songs that remind me of the good times in high school, for example.

Or maybe it's just a genre that you are passionate about, and want to discuss and find others that can share your interests.

The main point... Music DISCUSSION!

I've been getting really obsessed with hyperpop music lately, this is one of my favorite hyperpop songs:

I could genuinely listen to this for hours. (And I have lol.)

Today I learned that Aruarian Dance was sampled from this, which is in turn based off some other tune or something... it's a rabbit hole I never knew existed until now.
Pretty great, worth a listen.

Not a lot of people know this, but I’m a big fan of Rossini’s operas— La Cenerentola (Cinderella), L’Italiana in Algeri (Italian Girl in Algeria), and The Barber of Seville are my favorites. I got into his music when I was 19 and they remain a favorite of mine.

I also like when Rossini recycled his tunes…the last few minutes of this aria sound just like the finale “Non Piu Mesta” from Cenerentola.

if it's general music discussion, can we also just post about music in general? 'cause i just wanna say whoever popularized songs being under 2 minutes long you are my worst enemy and if i see you it's on sight

albums with 10 or less tracks that are all 3+ minutes long are my beloved

Digging through music samples is one of my favorite things to do when I'm listening to rap/hip-hop music. Not only is it fascinating to me, but it helps me beef up my music library too and learn some new tunes. I usually find myself adding a bunch of oldies songs in particular because of this and I love it. I also like to picture artists just digging through a treasure trove of all different kinds and sounds to craft their songs it's so dope to me and to hear how the final product comes out! Nujabes really snapped with this selection and I didn't know "Aruarian Dance" came from this particular song so thanks for sharing 😌

You inspired me to look up another sample/tune from this anime:

Thank you, I didn't know the titles of the original songs that the songs were sampled in. I know that they are sampled from somewhere but I didn't know the exact title of the song.

Both Nujabes and the sample source have good music. I was wondering about the original sample music from the Luv(sic) hexalogy series (since Luv(sic) is one of my favorites from Nujabes.)

I love who’s theme aaaa and the original is so magical *o*

I’m currently addicted to this song. The animation is so cute as well and I can’t stop doing the hand dance XD

To answer your question, yes, that is the point of this thread, it's meant to talk about music in general without any specific theme or question tied to it unlike other music threads on here. The reason I and @ShawnFuzz wanted to make this thread was because most other music threads here were tied to just 1 single question or were just posting song links with little to no further discussion about the music itself.

Personally on the point about shorter songs I usually don't mind them most of the time but I will agree it causes some songs to not really get a chance to breathe or leads to whatever message they might be saying to feel rushed sometimes. Usually if the message or lyrics are simple to understand then you don't gotta pad it out to like 4 minutes long, but for songs with more complex and harder to understand theme a longer runtime can help a lot.
If you disagree that's fine but I'm just the type of person to where if I hear a song that sounds good to me then I'll just shove it in my unorganized song playlist to listen to later, but usually the length of it is the last thing I think about unless it really bothers me with some songs.

I really don’t like modern music because of auto tune. That thing seriously ruined the entire medium along with the heavy reliance to incorporate rap into a majority of songs in an attempt to be more popular.

So I quit Spotify years ago in favor of Tidal since it promised less compressed sounding music. The sound quality definitely is better, but there's three major issues I have with it. First, there's a glitch the app has had for months where it temporarily removes every song in my library except for the last 500. They still haven't fixed it yet and I've had this glitch for at least two years. Secondly, the song recommendations aren't as good as Spotify. On Spotify I could guarantee liking at least three songs every week. With Tidal I'm lucky if I get two in a week. The last thing I don't like is the lack of a Spotify Wrap like feature. Instead of cool statistics and facts all Tidal users get is a lousy "most listened to songs of the year" playlist that is often wrong. I had to connect my Tidal to Last.fm just to get something somewhat similar to a Spotify Wrapped feature and even then it's still not as good. I would've switched back to Spotify by now, but I'm too spoiled by the audio quality on Tidal.

How many songs yall got in your library???

I use and pay for Spotify. I definitely listen to it enough to justify the price.

I also prefer shorter albums or playlists. All of my playlists are under 40 minutes. I used to think it wasn't enough, but it doesn't bother me now.

I pay for spotify and use that the most. I think i made a few playlists, but then i quit making them. Instead, i listen to whatever song/artist radio, and let spotify give me related stuff to listen to. Sometimes it works out quite well. None of the new tech for playing music seems to sound as good as some of the older systems, but it's good enough.

For people who like longer songs, try some pink floyd albums, lol. They can be quite long, but worth a listen.
