A friend of mine suggested these forums after I was berated and attacked for time traveling, he told me people here are a lot nicer. I was wondering why this is a thing? This game is supposed to be a sweet game yet I have a grown man telling me to physically harm myself over time traveling. I’ve had tons of positive interactions with people who time travel, and it always seems like the ones who are absolutely horrible and mean are the one who try to control how everyone else plays the game. The person who attacked me came to my island and got angry it was snowing, they said it ruined their immersion, but apparently not ruined enough to not sell their turnips first. It’s a game that’s supposed to be fun, I shouldn’t be called names and have my flowers trampled because I play a different way

edit: I mentioned that I TT to get the prices for the turnips. There were clear photos on my profile that showed my game was in winter, including my profile picture. He was well aware I was a TT before coming to my island to sell his turnips. He was just a jerk.

awww, to be 100% honest i would time travel as well if my switch wasn't parent locked because of my brothers!
edit: your right no one should do that no matter what you have done in a video game!

This community is unfortunately strongly opinionated towards certain play styles, and you will be berated for it. This forum isn't much different, its just that people are more relaxed here and anyone who would berate you or attempt to force their opinion down your throat would likely be punished in some way by the staff.

I think it takes a special kind of person to get enraged over how a stranger is playing a video game. Don't pay mind to them.

I TT too in a second town but that's because I know I will probably get tired of the game eventually and want to find the villagers I like before that happens.

Hopefully you feel more welcome here, but you'll unfortunately find people who are rude everywhere, you just gotta ignore them. Its a weird taboo in the community for a lot of people for whatever reason.

In every fandom/game, there is always going to be groups strongly opinionated towards certain things, and I'm not talking only about ''gatekeepers'' in here, also about those who seem annoyed that other people decide to not TT. Play as you want, and I'm talking from experience, reading too much about these things burns out, don't go on a spiral and start reading debates about this.

It's your game and you play as you want, one may find joy catching bugs and and other fishing, you know? If you ever encounter someone like this person, block them or in this case, I would have gladly kicked them out of my island. You don't have to endure experiences that ruin the game for you just because you decide to play the game like you want.

Yeah. People have made certain aspects of the game extremely taboo, just over some personal opinions. I'm against time travel myself, but I'd never even dream of harassing people over it. People play how they'll want to play. Simple as that.

While still a hot topic, most people here don't care how other people choose to play their game (within context of TT vs non-TT). They just set limitations within their own play style.

If anyone from this forum ever threatens you please report them and we'll take care of it.

I play a lot of multiplayer games where it’s not uncommon for people to be toxic, so I’m no stranger to be told to off myself... I just never expected it from such a wholesome game.

Welcome! I've never experienced anyone on here getting angry at me because I TT, and I've mentioned TTing on multiple occasions. I think people are used to it here, because so many players are trying to get their favorite villagers, and that generally involves TTing.

The only time I was ever harassed about time travel, was on Miiverse (lol) during New Leaf, someone "accused" me of being a time-traveler because I posted a screenshot in which my character had bed-head. In reality I just hadn't played in a long time, but even so, why care how someone else plays.

You do you. Play in your own style, in your own time. Gatekeepers are terrible but ultimately they're just making loud and rude noises. Pay no mind to them.

People don't want their experience of new seasons spoiled, but that's no excuse to be mean to another person. You should mention it if you're in a different season or hemisphere though, I think that' a reasonable thing to do.

The thing is, with everything going on right now, people are very emotionally attached to the game, more than usual. It's easy to just judge someone and feel superior, but I think we all need to be more thoughtful of other people and be okay with them not thinking like us. A group of people absolutely hates getting spoiled (myself included), it's not wrong to expect you to note that you're already in winter.
Your visitor just got their first experience with snow in the game and they won't get that back. Many people look forward to the leadup of snowfall. You should just mention it.

Well, with your pictures it definitely changes your post. Then he's definitely just an idiot. And I guess trampling your flowers also shows his bad intentions as well. Sorry you had to make this experience! Personally I visited like 20 or 30 people and they were all incredibly kind and thoughtful!

It really sounds like they wanted to take the moral high ground on you, make you feel bad, but still benefit because it sounds like this is a pretty selfish person...

If they "didn't want to ruin their immersion", then why go to an island that they knew was TTed in the first place? They got what they wanted from you, and then got up on their high horse and rode off. I'm sorry this person was so mean to you, especially when you were only helping them with the turnip prices.

Personally for TT, I do it myself, but have plenty of friends that don't, and also ones that do. Play the game how you want, you bought it! But please do not attack someone for how they play it. Whatever floats peoples' boats.

I mean sure, I’m not a fan of TTers. I personally feel that they’re the main reason why Nintendo lowered the bank interest and now keep events locked behind updates. I can kinda understand where the guy is coming from - I would want to experience winter for the first time in my town too and experience it my way, which is why I don’t like visiting towns in the opposite hemisphere to me.
But I would never dream of verbally attacking someone because of how they choose to play their game. I might not agree with it but that’s fine. I’m sure some people don’t agree with the way I play either.
We all brought our own copy of the game with our own hard earned money. We all have the right to play the game however we desire.
Perhaps to avoid this in the future, just put a note out before inviting people that your date isn’t set to the current, then people can decide if they have an issue with that. But regardless, that person should never have said those things to you.

I get it, and if I hadn’t made sure to make sure people knew I TT I would feel really bad because I’m the type of person who never wants to ruin things for others. I even made sure to mention that I TT to get the price I had, but like someone above said I think this guy just wanted to make me feel bad about my game... and sell his turnips lol. I’m just glad I don’t have to live with him! could you imagine how someone like that is in real life?!
