I'm curious to hear what games you guys play that fill the AC hole when you're not currently invested in any Animal Crossing game. Specifically those which give you what you seek from an Animal Crossing experience rather than just other games you happen to like.

Story of Seasons. You build up your town, you customise your house and farm, you grow stuff, you keep animals, you trade stuff. It's the closest game I have on 3DS to Animal Crossing.

Story of Seasons is one of my favourite series as well, possibly tied for favourite with AC, but to me it fills a different hole to Animal Crossing.

Stardew Valley? Though, I really just play Etrian Odyssey to fill the void in my life (besides AC).

You could try Castaway Paradise, but it's more of an AC simulation than a genuine game on its own.

I just bought Little Dragons Cafe and it's been fun so far. But I don't see myself investing as much into it as I did AC, but they do have different play styles so that's expected. I've heard Yonder is a good replacement for AC but I haven't played it yet. It's supposed to be about laid back exploration with a little action.

Splatoon 2 is one of those games that got all my attention after I got my Switch and also got
bored playing New Leaf. It's also a good game to fill the void till the new AC comes out, same
goes for Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The Sims mostly.

I've been considering picking up Stardew Valley given they're planning more content for that game.

Any Harvest Moon game, Stardew Valley and The Sims would do the trick.
There's also the Harvest Moon's spin-off, Rune Factory, but it also has some action RPG elements too.

Harvest Moon! Although I'm gonna need to fill that void too soon lol
but The Sims definitely helps fill in any and all gaps lolol

First the I'd like to say hi to that massive BTS fan above me. (HI)

And I like Harvest Moon, mainly the old ones, but all make me pretty happy, they're insanely easy to get addicted to, though.
(Not on DS) The Sims, is pretty addictive, too. (HONESTLY, they're all crazy addictive. Like Jolly Ranchers)
Fantasy Life *reminds* me of Animal Crossing, but it has an RPG sort of feel. Tomodachi Life is obvious. Stardew Valley, another good one. I play it on PS4, Sims I used to play on my PS3. Have fun. lol

I actually don't play any other games like Animal Crossing. If I want to play a game like AC, then that's what I play. I do own all 4 mainseries games and HHD, so it never loses my interest.

I suppose the closest game to AC that I play is The Sims 1, but I don't play that very much anymore.

I don't want to fill the void with something else. I want the game :(

That said, what I am doing is a monthly dream address update in order to "fill the void" somewhat.

Harvest moon

Harvest moons fils that void a lot-ish, i mean it is very diffrent

I've recalled a few others since my last post:
There is a The Sims' spin off called MySims that tried to be like Animal Crossing. The first sequel, MySims Kingdom, still follows the overall idea, but the later games are different concepts. You can find the first game on Origins, and all the other games are for the DS and Wii (with the exception of SkyHeroes, for the PS3 and 360 too and apparently is a Mario Kart clone with airplanes)
There is also My Time at Portia, which sounds a bit more like Harvest Moon. Same for Staxel, which has Minecraft-like graphics.

when I'm not invested in an animal crossing game, I'd rather be playing other types games or just doing other non-game related things tbh

I see a lot of you are saying Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons and Stardew Valley and I raise you Farm Together. I was so skeptical about it but its so worth $20. There's an infinite amount of things to do and you get a huge, ever expanding farm with crops, animals, trees, etc. You can even make a house that has full customization. I've been playing it non stop and I really think its going to hold me over until Animal Crossing. There's a ton of things to unlock and level up, and has cooking, painting, etc. You can have up to 8 people join you on your farm and you level up your character to unlock customization. I could go on for this for hours, look up some reviews on it, they're all overwhelmingly positive. There's no stress of animals starving if you don't feed them or crops dying if you don't water/harvest them. It's so relaxing and I can pick it up all throughout the day.

If anyone has it for the switch, let me know so we can play together! It's also available for Xbox One and PC but I don't believe they're cross compatible yet.
