So I went to start up my old AC:GC game today, and K.K. Slider said my town data corrupted and that my town was gone. Great, there goes all my hard work and memories.

I tried to create a new town, but the data corrupted again as soon as I saved it. I tried this with other games too. I checked and all the data on my memory card corrupted. GREAT. I tried saving new data for other games as well, but it corrupted immediately after saving and wouldn't load it.

Does anyone know what's wrong, or a way to fix this so I can play AC:GC again? At this point, I'm thinking it's broken and I need to buy a new memory card.

Did you blow in it?

Actual advice, the card is old and collected dust on the inside. You could try and fix it, but you could probably just find a new memory card for pretty cheap.

I did this multiple times, and I even used a cotton swab. Should I try opening it?

No, don't, you will completely damage your memory card and then you will have to go to a used video game store to buy a new one

Try gently hitting it (Nintendo suggested this for a WiiMote problem, so.....)

But at this point, you should just buy a new one.

I'd say yeah for taking it apart to carefully clean it. Like you said, if you don't do anything it's just going to not work anyway.

Gamecube memorycards are around 10-15 dollars nowadays, so if you need a new one they're still out there.

I hit it, but that didn't work. I'm going to try to take it apart if I can find a tri-head screwdriver.
