Like the Title says, with the latest system update to the 3DS version 11.1.0-34, it added a check so if you where to download the amiibo Update and play it and for some reason you deleted the update and try to play the game. The system will give you a message to update the game and refuse you to play it until you update the game with the amiibo Update. It's not a deal breaker or anything but it's just a warning for those who for some reason prefer the Version 1.1 over the new stuff.

what's the difference??? would the new version be better than v1.1??? what's the benefit of keeping v1.1??

do you have a source for this? if it's true it's definitely an attempt to stop hackers, but I'm not sure I believe it...

I'm also guessing that the update being unable to let you revert back to its first version is becasue of hacking prevention. Meh, don't care much about this. Hacking my own town is too much of a hassle.

SOURCE: https://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/11.1.0-34 I don't hack or anything but I like checking the site to see what Nintendo really updates in their system updates. If anything my best guess it's simply to prevent the game from going bonkers. Think of this: let's say you downloaded the update and got a bunch of new villagers and furniture that's in the amiibo Update and saved the game. Then you delete the Update and tried to play it, the game would probably crash due to the save data containing data of stuff the original version doesn't have. To prevent this they but a check so if you were to do this it would prevent the game from starting at all.

The new version is defiantly better than 1.1 with all the new stuff it's adding. There's not too many benefits of keeping 1.1 besides maybe that the new version patches any hacks that are used in 1.1 so once you update you probably can't do those hacks until they find new ones, if any.

Sounds more likely, but I'll be keeping an eye on it regardless. ^^

i can see why some people would be upset about the hack prevention, but i personally don't see anything wrong with it. but i'm confused; i don't hack things into the game or change landscapes in anyway, but does updating it negate everything you have put in that isn't "natural"?

Is there any benefit in buying a new cartridge AFTER they release the new version, or buying one now and updating? I want to have a new town in a month or so but didn't know if it would really make a difference to wait for the new version, if it came with cards or better features!

You can (at least in the UK) preorder the acnl game with the welcome amiibo update already added (its on Amazon UK, for its full retail price of ?34.99) ie you get the cart with the new box art and the update included. It does come with one card from the new 50 card set (showing villagers in camper vans).

If you buy the game now - its around ?25 (in the UK) and a lot cheaper in the US as it came out as a select game there.

Is it worth getting the new game? - ie waiting till its released (Nov 25th for UK, bit later for the US) - not on the face of it.

The update is free for existing game owners.
There might be a 'crazy' time when the update first comes out - ie the servers will be so busy it might take updates to complete longer than they should. Or it might be so busy that we could be advised to stagger updates - ie wait a few days.
Updates might glitch, who knows.

So if you are thinking of adding a new game, then waiting for the release date of 'acnl - welcome amiibo' is a possibility. Apart from its price.
It would mean you could then if you wanted to, not update your older game. (that may or may not be possible - like system updates - if you connect to the internet, it downloads and then continually asks you 'do you want to install' ).

Even if that's the case and there's hack protection, it's only a matter of how long for before somebody gets around it. Just like with every iPhone update, they always find a way to jailbreak the phones again. Interested to see this new update and how it will work

Hmm if all you get is one new card I'd rather just buy the game now for $20 (on sale) and then buy a pack of cards later, haha!

Probably the smarter way to do it. But the new cover looks nice and I'm assuming the cover of the cartridge and maybe even the Title Screen might be changed to reflect the new Title.

Was just going to post the same thing. However, people have different notions and opinions of what hacking is. To me power saves isn't really hacking if you just back up your game in case of future corruption not due to a power save. Nor is cloning. Homebrew or other ram editing programs are if you are looking at the technical differences. People in general are curious by nature and some will try to find hacking prevention work arounds not because they want to hack themselves but seeing how things work together in a scientific way. For those that to want to its just a challenge for them to solve as its really only a matter of time. I personally don't see the update as Nintendo trying to prevent hacking specifically. As someone pointed out it could just be a way of not having your game constantly crash or corrupt if you were to uninstall the update because then your going to have the two versions colliding causing this issue. The whole hacking prevention I think might just be a side effect. We will see how this plays out though.

I got the new select one and the only difference is the actual casing cover. I don't know if the one not released yet will be different. I should have waited to get mine because I really don't want to get another cartridge. I am already way past my limit at 7.

8th the charm? Lol. XD

For those of you worried about the hacking prevention, don't. This will have no effect on people's ability to hack, provided they're using the most recent methods.
