Fullmetal Alchemist (manga and 2009 anime) is my all time number two favorite anime. It has a plethora of interesting characters who are nicely developed, an interesting and thought-provoking plot, a theme of overcoming hardship, and best of all, both a conclusion and a resolution (in other words, every single plot point brought up was addressed and resolved without leaving plotholes).
I prefer ASIAN KUNG FU GENERATION's openings for FMA.
Ditto. I liked their music over the other openings (though, I did like "Rewrite" in the 2003 anime, as well as "Hologram" and "Let it Out" in the 2009 anime).
One of the best AMVs I've ever seen could have very well have very well been an opening song for the 2003 anime (as it was made as if it was an opening), and was better than most of the ones which are official. It's called "
Easy Action of Hagaren", and was put together with said song by a user named "Pianos" (at least, that's what the username was on amv.org).
Which is better?
The original or remake?
I watched the original and the ending is ok, but I have yet to start season 2
I prefer the remake (the 2009 anime; Brotherhood). At the time the 2003 version was coming out, the manga had yet to be completed, and I recall following both but preferring the manga over the anime.
Granted, without knowing how the manga was going to end, the 2003 version did an excellent job, and even has a couple of incidents in it which never made it to the final cut of the 2009 anime despite being in the manga (such as the train robbery; though in the manga, Ed is older when it occurs and is already a State Alchemist).
I even made a (bad, since I couldn't get rid of the subtitles) AMV with the 2003 version...and I never want to hear the song I made it to ever again. Still, that meant the anime version was good enough to make an AMV of. If I had the proper editing software, I'd make one for the 2009 anime.
The Brotherhood movie was also complete crap (I have a review up for it on Anime Planet, and I think giving it a single star out of 10 is being generous), and while Conqueror of Shambala had its faults, it was a much more solid and interesting movie.
That, and Roy actually got to do something in it once he got out of his funk.
There was a particularly humorous scene in the manga which unfortunately didn't make it to the 2009 anime, and is one of my favorite reactions between Ed and Roy; when Ed made his spear and charged at Bradley during his State Alchemy test, there's a scene afterwards where, in talking about loyalty, Ed pointed out to Roy that the man didn't make a single move to stop him from assaulting the Furher.
