How long do you have to ignore them for the level to decrease? I admit I often forget to talk to my "Best friend" villagers because I'm doing x or y so I wonder if they stop liking me so much after awhile. Also, are there other ways to raise friendship with villagers BESIDES sending letters, giving gifts and doing requests? And does giving them a little "extra" in their requests like a perfect pear instead of regular pear, a refurbished item and so on actually do anything or is it counted as something normal?

i'm pretty sure talking to them increases it, but i could be wrong haha just don't talk to them too much (when they get the thought bubble, they've had too much of your face). i don't do villager requests very often, basically gift delivering or fruit giving and furniture gifting. so i just assumed my talking to them multiple times helped considering i have pretty high levels of friendship with most of my villagers. you can kind of tell that they're friends with you if they change into your custom outfits, if they ask you for a catch phrase, if they ask to call you buy a new nickname. so if they're still doing that, you're probably good!

This is something I'm not sure if its true or not but supposedly you can see who you have the highest friendship with...when you send them letters. The person at the top of the list is the one the game considers your bestie.

yep, the more they like you the more they're inclined to wear your designs. also, if they just spring up at your house uninvited and give you something, that means they like you. if you really wish to check, i heard megaphone calling works. they'll turn to you and wave or do some emoticon if they like you.

I read somewhere that you can try to check it while one of your villagers is sitting on the bench that seats two people. If you sit beside them and if you don't look at each other you have the normal level of friendship. If both of you look at each other and smile, it means you have high amount of friendship with them. Something like that~

Sending gifts in the mail helps, too. Specifically, send them gifts they'll like. Learn their favorite colors and styles and send them gifts in that category. One thing that helped me with this is Thonky.com, and the guide there. There's a birthday gift suggestion area, but it's also good for sending gifts to animals out of the blue.

I don't think this is right either way though because the list puts Flurry at the bottom and Soleil at second, when I've had Soleil for very little time and we're still on the "decent friends" level according to megaphone check so I'm not sure this is right...
