For those of you who don't use custom paths, why?

I don't like to use them, even now in new horizons.
I like that we have what we have now and I'm genuinely happy about it.
I feel like if I used custom paths, I would never be happy with my current setup.
Also, I love hearing the sound effects on the brick.

I use custom paths, but I agree I really miss the sound effects : (
I plan to not use any on my 2nd island because of that mainly, but also because they take up sooo much space.

I'm on a mindset of trying to avoid using too many custom patterns and using what the game already has. I really only use them for hanging mirrors, and I had to make a hotel bar and we didn't have hanging bottles at the time.

Definitely the lack of sound effects. There are so many beautiful paths but I can't hear any sound so it throws it all off for me. It's a shame.

I simply like the stock paths better than any other custom paths I've seen. Yeah, I like how "the path" looks, and I've downloaded it but honestly, it's static (there's no effect when you walk/run on it when it's wet) and it lacks sound.

Also, I only use both dirt paths and they look and feel exactly how I wanted. They fit my island perfectly.

Custom paths still don’t look as realistic/natural to me, but the primary reason I don’t use them is because I don’t like the sound they make when you walk on them…sounds like walking on cloth; sounds even worse when wet. I like the paths they’ve given us, they look more natural

I just feel it'd be even more annoying than regular pathing to be fully honest bc I've seen that some path designs got like 4 different design slots for different styles or different ways for the path and it would just confuse me and make me quit LOL

That reminds me of in new leaf how there were absolutely 0 paths and you had to dig around the internet to find them.
Then if you did find them, they would be like 10 unique slots and then you had to create a new character and then the whole shebang.
Then you gotta make that house nice...blehh

I don't use custom paths from others because I want my island to be 100% my own. I don't make patterns because there is no touch screen and I find designing to be apain with the joystick and buttons :( So I guess it's in game paths for me until I find the patience to sit there and make my own. I just wish they added touch screen functionality for it. I don't know why they didn't..

Yes!
The fact that there's no touchscreen for custom designs is a huge problem.
I'm not an artist myself, but I feel like people draw easier with their hands/stylus verses button pushing.

i use custom paths in some parts of my island because i like how they look, but i don't like to use them really. because of the lack of sounds!!! i really really wish we could like, apply a sound effect to custom designs for if they're placed on the ground. y'know, like you get a list of options like dirt, sand, wood, snow, brick, terracotta, etc. just pre-existing sound files in the game attributed to the floor type. if i could have custom dirt paths actually sound like dirt or brick sounding like brick instead of being silent, i would love that. it's the biggest turn-off for me using custom paths which is really a shame because so many are so pretty. i just can't stand not hearing little sounds when walking :(

i used to use custom paths in new leaf because i wanted a natural dirt path later on.
i don't use custom paths in new horizons because there is a default dirt path, and also the custom path sound effect sounds weird to me- like lightly tapping on someone's arm?

I like the normal paths, and custom ones just don't look good.
The path is nice enough, but not very original.
If I'm going to lack creativity, I might as well do it with paths that show up on my map

lack of sound effects and waste of (slot) space. not to mention that it would take an age to lay them down, and i don't consider it a worthy use of my time. granted, the in-game paths also take a while to set down, but not as long since you don't have to open your inventory every ten seconds. my NL towns both had dirt paths in the end, so i was excited to see them included in-game with NH. i also like that the in-game paths show up on your map; it shows the work/progress i've done and makes my town look developed/lived in.

I'm more of an interior designer and don't really care so much about the island designing. I set up areas with decorations, sure, but I don't go all out on my island and lay down paths. My island isn't really set up such that I can make a pretty neighborhood or something, and moving all the houses to change that would be a pain in the butt, so I just don't bother. Certain small areas and the farm I set up do use in-game paths, but that's about it.

I also just don't really care to look for any. Honestly, I'd rather fill my custom design slots with stuff like clothes, door designs that you can put on a partition, and other miscellaneous things.

I honestly prefer the sand paths. I used those throughout my island.

  • lack of sound effects (love the tippy taps)
  • takes forever to lay down
  • don't look as good as the in-game paths purely because of the limitations in the design creator (looks lower quality)
  • and the most obnoxious one of all: they disappear if you accidentally kick them

One reason I'll add that hasn't been mentioned yet: limiting myself to the paths the game provides makes it easier to make decisions when designing. Once you get into custom paths, the amount of options you have to pick from can become overwhelming.

Harder to place
Looks uglier (It's pixelated, and it also has tearing issues)
Gets messed up while picking up items.
Doesn't have the same sound effect as real paths.
