For all you Blue-Rose breeders, how long did it take you to get your first one?

I've had the game since launch and I'm STILL struggling to get a blue rose. I have a sizeable patch of hybrid red roses, but it's been quite the pain trying to get blues to spawn.

For those who have gotten Blue-Rose bred naturally on their island, how long did it take you? Do you have any tips to increase the odds?

My S/O and I started breeding all the flowers (except for mums -- they were not yet available then) in mid- or late-June. It took me about one month to get my first Blue Rose, which to this day, still makes me feel kind of guilty after having joined the forums and coming across tonnes of people (including OP) who grind through months of breeding to no avail. After a couple of days, my S/O got impatient, and I just gave him one to clone.

We watered each other's flowers that we wanted to breed or clone to increase the chances.

Both of us followed this flower-breeding guide religiously (the very last image).

By the way, I'm happy to water your roses if you ever need another waterer! ^^

Yeah I would have 5 visitors most days and still no avail. But I just checked the list, and I had zero clue that there was a longer but more successful way to get blue roses! The way I was doing was the way that had 1.6% chance, but I guess I'll have to try the way that gets 25% chance. Thank you!

You're welcome, happy to help! My S/O is normally the patient one in the relationship, so let me know if you get tired of this endeavour. 😆 I don't have a tonne of Blue Roses, but I could definitely part with one for you to clone. :3

Thank you! I'm just gonna try to see if I can do it myself first since I'm adamant about getting hybrids on my own :)

We have two islands, the first one I just started in May without visitor watering and get the first blue rose in about a little more than two months. I tried many different methods and lost track which method produced the two red roses producing the blue and since then they no more bred blue roses :( but I got a lot of them from cloning.

The 2nd island I use the 4-step method because it is easy to track, and had 4 accounts from the 1st island watering them to increase the chance, and I got the first blue rose there within 2 months. But the watering is just from time to time, not every day.

It is a patient game so just hang in there. Good luck!

I took a little over a month to get my first Blue Rose with no visitor watering (not counting the amount of time it took to get Black and Purple Roses for the start of the breeding path I took). I used the Asteriation Genepool method. I started the second step on June 12 and stopped breeding more Hybrid Reds on July 13 (by then, I had nearly a hundred of those things). I had only been cloning the Hybrid Reds up until then, so July 13 was when I started officially breeding them together. On July 22, I got my first Blue Rose. So it only took 10 days of actually breeding the Hybrid Reds to get to the end.

What method are you using to get Blue Roses? If you're a long-time player and are still using the Purple x Orange method that we used back in NL, that's not the best option because it doesn't guarantee Hybrid Reds with the correct genes that will give you Blue Roses. You end up with duds half the time. Obviously, it just comes down to a luck in the end, but since you've been breeding since release date, I'm starting to get the impression that some of the Hybrid Reds you have might not be the correct ones.

I got my first last week so almost six months. Blue roses are truly the Dark Souls of hybrid breeding. I bought some previously, but I still wanted to carry on with my own breeding project.

They are cloning nicely though.

You'd be correct. I was using that method since at the time of launch, it was the only one I knew about. Guess I'll be changing methods then😂

My first blue rose showed up on 5/13, and was the product of two blacks that were a product of two hybrid reds. Frustrating as all get out, I know, but once I got the first, cloning took over, and now I have 99.

I don't remember exactly when I first started trying for blue roses. I worked on getting the others first, as I had an easier time. I'm down to purple pansies and blue roses now.

I had been following the purple x orange method, but scrapped it because I was worried that my reds were contaminated. I started up with the Asteriation Genepool method and am now breeding hybrid reds. Hopefully I'll get there soon.

Then I'll work on those stinkin' purple pansies.

I remember when you told me that! I was very jelly that day lol (Hopefully I'll get lucky soon 😭)

Good luck with the breeding, and hang in there! Knowing is half the battle, so I think you'll be fine now. I'd recommend checking out the methods in the link I gave you in my previous post to find one that you like. If you just want something simple, there are plenty of methods in that guide that don't require much oversight. The more complicated methods require precise managing of genes and knowledge of the breeding/cloning mechanics, but will get you Blue Roses faster.

Thanks to the power of datamining, we know basically everything about flower breeding now. Like which layouts are the best (for example, the diagonal checkerboard pattern that most of us used in NL isn't a good one) and how exactly the genetics works. If you're also not familiar with the datamining stuff, I'd recommend checking out some the guides here. They'll help you better understand the different methods I linked to.

Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions. I'm also stubborn and like breeding flowers on my own, so I get it. :'D

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! I'll definitely check these out :)

I started trying for a blue rose in June. So far still no blue rose. I have tried a couple of methods with no results. I did the orange and purple to get hybrid reds, and currently I am trying the 12 by 12 to get a few other flowers I am missing.

I don't have anyone to water except myself so I expect it to take longer.

Yeah, I used to have lots of visitors, but got burnt-out always having to invite people and explaining things lol. So now it's been taking an extra long time.

...I'll let you know. This is the method I've been using:

White + White = Purple
Purple + Red = Hybrid Red 1
Hybrid Red 1 + Yellow = Hybrid Red 2
Hybrid Red 2 + Hybrid Red 2 = Blue Rose (1.56% chance)
(directly copy and pasted from someone else's post on here, I have it saved on a word doc I use to save notes to myself, lol)

And I currently have two flowerbeds- one with hybrid 1s and yellows, and the other is solid hybrid 2s. But no luck so far. I think I've gotten just about every other rose color outta them, though, lol.

But I REALLY want blue roses for outside Julia's house! She deserves them 🥺

Once I got roses from Leif, I'd say it took me about 3-4 months to get my first blue rose. I probably would have gotten one sooner had I done things a little differently.

I went the longer breeding route that is supposed to get you red hybrid roses that have a 25% chance of breeding a blue rose, and read that those red hybrids would only breed genetically identical red hybrids... which I don't think is true.

After weeks of growing more and more of these supposed red hybrids in an ever-increasing patch with no blues showing up, I separated all of the reds out to individual areas so that they could ONLY clone, then allowed any cloned pairs to breed. That was probably two months ago. After three or four weeks, one of those cloned pairs finally bred a blue rose. To this date, it is still the only native blue rose any of my "hybrid" reds that I cloned have bred. I suspect many of those reds don't have the right genetics for it.

i tried the method that gives higher percentage chance to get a blue rose and i did it for an in game month or so without success. then i gave up and bought blue roses lol

That's been my struggle; I feel like most of the hybrid reds I have aren't the right ones.
