flower overload

I have that issue too, have to place patterns all round my gardens to keep flowers from spreading.
This, all my weeds and flowers are blocked in by clear tiles now just to stop them spreading. I have the flowers I want and any more than those are just pests now.
Have a second town I used for breeding flowers at one point and it's now about 80% flowers and if it wasn't holding a coupe villagers I don't have amiibo for, I'd delete the town because there's no way I'm gonna tidy them all.

I didn't play for a couple days once and apparently it rained the whole time because I came back and there were flowers Everywhere!! I like that they are a little more hardy than in previous games (the feels of accidentally not being able to stop running in time and completely destroying a plant :'( ) but they do seem to get a little out of control now, is there no middle ground??

While I did have a huuuuge flower problem that took me hours to sort out because I didn't have forethought early in the game I wouldn't trade how hardy they are for anything. I still have hundreds on my island but they are now controlled from spreading and are exactly how I like them.

I understand how tedious fixing a flower explosion is though.

First of all, I admire the energy you had to not only count all of them, but to sit down for that long and take care of them all! WOW.

I think the feature definitely tries to help the player, but yes they become awful to deal with when they take over. The main intent seems to have been to make it so you could craft stuff with flowers without destroying an entire flowering plant by doing so. So that rules out being able to pluck them up without using a shovel. If you could still run over the flower and destroy it that way, I don't know how much that would affect gameplay. I mean not even weeds die in this game so

This kinda reminds me of bamboo in NL. Bamboo plants used to reproduce infinitely, so they would similarly take over very quickly if you weren't careful to block them in, dig up the shoots every day, something. I remember having my entire plaza just full of bamboo shoot baskets. 😩 Clearly the AC team learned from that. Too bad they didn't think of the similar logic for flowers. Best we can hope is they figure out a solution in the next AC. For now, transparent patterns help.

This is also my struggle especially after it rains. I want Nintendo to implement something that will allow me to bulldoze them to oblivion. Nevertheless, this behaviour also explains why flower trading isn't a thing anymore.

Yes! I think the biggest problem with this is the fact that we can't put them in storage like in NL. Well, that and the fact that we need the for DIY.

if we could put flowers into storage i could die happy. ive said this b4 but i think allowing us to store grown flowers in our house storage system would actually motivate me to seasonally decorate my island. sometimes u just need matching flowers, but they take forever to breed if u dont want to keep them forever.

I loved rainy days in the old games. And while I still enjoy the ambience, I dislike them in this game because of how much they cause flowers to sprout out of control. It wouldn't be so bad if the shovel wasn't the only way to remove them apart from using the unreliable island cleanup..

yeah I've definitely had my fair share of a flower overload ^^;
I was quite disappointed when I realized the clean-up service doesn't remove flowers around you, bc I feel like that would save so much time. digging up a whole area of flowers while continually breaking your shovel just ain't it.

I’m just now starting to semi clean up and mange my flowers that have been multiplying times a bajillion. I figure if I go slow and steady, one section at a time, eventually I’ll have it all managed. It’s definitely gonna take a long while, but it’ll get sorted out eventually. I still can’t believe with all this breeding going on I still can’t seem to get any blue roses! And on top of that, my one purple windflower is being super stubborn and just refuses to clone itself no matter what! (╥_╥)

I got rid of all my planted commons and bought seeds for them in case I need them later. I decorated my town with what was left of the hybrids and all the hybrids I'm not using I plucked the flowers and stuck them on the beach. Then they look like rushes and waterline plants and blend in. :) When I need them again (as I change flowers for seasons) I'll switch them around.

I feel like the only person here who doesn't mind the constant arranging and re-arranging of flowers. I feel like most of my island is a garden! Or at least has all the garden spots because my flowers aren't all grown yet and will probably take a while to grow.

Honestly I like the flower explosion. I wouldn't have got my hybrids as fast and if I don't need any I can just trash them. Yes, rainy weather makes them go crazy but its better for them to have a high spawn rate than a low one.
