Flipnotes and Swapnote to be discontinued?

Well, you're a little late on this.

Thats what happens when your a university student who also works 50 hours a week at a full time and a part time job.

I sold my Japanese 3DS so I can no longer use flipnotes 3D, but I still have a DSi

Seriously, Nintendo? You are canceling the one shred of hope anyone has left for messaging? Flipnote 3D looked to be awesome, but now it's gone. Maybe NoA should take a class in the Internet to learn that's just the way it works. You cancel something to protect people? You are thanked with an angry mob.

Swapnote was never great, but Flipnote 3D would've been fabulous...

NoA knows what we want, it's NoJ that needs to learn. NoJ and I think NoE actually call their own shots, NoA is kind of a puppet.

Well, did NoA go along with NoJ and NoE? If so, they seriously need to make their own decisions.

NoJ enforces the will of the company, if we want anything to happen we'd have to annoy the hell out of all three honestly. Want NoJ wants, NoJ gets. Reggie's no idiot and knows we want an actual online infrastructure but NoJ wants to do everything their way.

It's really idiotic that NoJ gets what they want. Just because the official, giant Nintendo is in Japan doesn't mean we have to follow along with what they do. But I guess that's that, and NoA can't do anything about it.

I don't think I'm going to miss Swapnote that much with Miiverse on 3DS. It's a shame that the NNID unification process doesn't merge my Wii U Friend List with the 3DS one.

What's irritate me the most in this incident, is how Nintendo appears to be "clueless" when its come to online. The fact that they want to protect their "family-friendly" image is a very superficial argument, as you can't really control the harsh, cynical bits of Internet without compromising everybody regardless on their maturity. And that happened because of a very few people who actually shared gross pictures. Couldn't Nintendo understand the basics of Internet sociality better than that?

Swapnote's leaving?
*pretends to be sad*
I really hated it. Everyone kept sending me their crap and the notification wouldn't go away and it was so annoying. >_>

Seeing as NoJ is based in an area where local play is still king, I highly doubt they'll change anything for a few generations. They can promise us all they want, but I don't see a damn thing changing soon. They just finally reached 2005/2006 with merging wallet balances (only on 3DS and Wii U >:/ ), it'll probably take them until 2020 to realize people outside Japan actually enjoy playing online with other people and meet up using messaging.

It kind of feels like we're screaming at the top of our lungs yet no one can hear us. Well, Nintendo can't, anyway.

What nintendo could do is have both services moderated like MiiVerse so nobody can do any of that stuff.

Also, I disagree with anyone who says NINTENDO needs to understand how THE INTERNET operates. Maybe YOU need to understand how NINTENDO operates instead. Nintendo is a video game company targeted towards a demographic of ALL AGES, one of the main ones being CHILDREN, and they will do anything to make sure children do not get exposed to anything inappropriate from any of their online services. In fact, since the internet is full of trolls, cyberbullies, hackers, predators, sexually explicit content and the like, I don't blame Nintendo for not being so quick to conform to this online gaming stuff.

Now, if you excuse me. I'm going to run away because I probably have signed my death sentence by posting this.

No, you're right. It's just about what TheBigJC said earlier. They would have to exchange friend codes in the first place, which is in a sense allowing them to receive whatever they send. If it was some random person being a troll on the internet and sending those pics out, then they should have SOME conscience of not friending some random person they don't know.
