In recent years, games such as Brain Age and Big Brain Academy have become very successful. Nintendo loves their brain training games but now they've decided to try a vision training game. Yes, vision training. What were they thinking? They started with just simple brain training exercises that lead up to this game, Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes A Day!
Flash Focus doesn't really have a story. You just turn your Nintendo DS on and you start. You then have to set up an account and then do some simple exercises to get a rough estimate of about how old your eyes are. Once you complete these simple exercises, you may then do some of todays basic training. There are four training exercises that you can do. These exercises range from trying to hit a baseball to doing some boxing.
Flash Focus offers some great little exercises for you to complete but you have to play each day to unlock them. It's not really the best way to unlock them. They could have easily made them unlockable by getting a high score in an exercise. Each exercise allows you to try to get a high score by giving you so many points in each category and then the overall total equals 100.
This game is a really hard game to review. There isn't any story which eliminates all the story aspects of my reviews. The only thing I can explain is some of information about the game and each of the five categories I score a game in. Even though the game is really short, you can get tons of replay value out of it by trying to get a prefect score of 100 and to try to play everyday!
Flash Focus offers a mediocre overall presentation. The game is very similar to Brain Age games but this game doesn't feel nothing like a Brain Age game. Brain Age helps develop your brain but Flash Focus only trys to help your vision. It's not really the type of game I was looking forward to. The game also doesn't explain the exercises enough as they do in Brain Age.
Now Brain Age really lacked graphics. There was very little colour and very little detail. Flash Focus offers way better graphics than Brain Age. They even have a person who resembles a narrator just like Dr. Kawashima from Brain Age. I really like this versions more than Brain Age's. They also tried to make the graphics look 3-D and it actually worked! The graphics look very realistic but sometimes appear a little blocky. However, they are still a huge improvement over Brain Age.
Though nothing mind blowing, Flash Focus has moderate music. It's really nothing worth mentioning nor is the sound effects. Just wanted to let the music fans know that there isn't anything good in this game.
In the game, every exercise only takes about 10-30 seconds. People who love longer better look elsewhere. However, people who actually haven't got that much time on their hands will love this game. I loved it and I'm sure most people will as well!
Closing Comments:
You can play this game over and over again, and still like it. However, hard core gamers such as myself should look elsewhere. The game is great for novice players and some of the hard core gamers but other hard core gamers will hate it.
