Fishing Tourney- Why am I only getting terrible furniture?

So for the past few days, I've been going to the island to get sharks in hopes of getting the full fish set, but I've only gotten 3 different pieces and the rest have been common furniture! What's going on?! It's so annoying, I spent so much time on this and it's all going to waste.

I think there's a certain point that the size of the fish has to be, and that's when Chip will give you the furniture. I don't have a chart for this, that's pretty much the entire extent of my knowledge on this.

That is weird, I don't know why you keep getting common furniture, that sucks.

I also keep getting sucky furniture or dublicates of ones that I already have. therefore I have a few extras if you're intristed c:

I'm mosty getting common furniture too, got the dab table twice though, and the crab clock, and the fish wallpaper.

I've never gotten common furniture from chip when I do the fishing tourney... maybe try fishing for regular fish in the river and ocean in your town instead? By the way it's super creepy if he eats the shark...

How it works is that you will only get items from the fish tourney set when you beat the record. If you don't beat the record, you'll get a random piece of normal furniture.

I advise that you start with giving him the smallest fish and then give him bigger and bigger fish.

I know. I always beat my previous (1:st place) record, but I sometimes get random furniture

when you beat your previous record you'll always be gifted the fish series furniture. it is random, but remember that the all-fish-works tournaments and the specific-fish tournaments have specific items from the set that they can give. so you gotta do both to have all items

In addition to beating the previous record, the fish you turn in also needs to be larger than the average size for that fish. Otherwise, you'll just get a regular item. Here is a list I found that shows the average size of each fish in both inches and centimeters, although I don't know how accurate it is.

Also, as already mentioned, there are two sets of possible prizes.
