fishing tourney advice

Does anyone have any advice for the first fishing tourney? I understand from TT'ers that the second one will be for a specific fish but this one coming up is usually for any fish. Are there some kinds of fish that are good to stockpile up before hand? I have a few sharks and things in my closet just in case.

sharks are good. I suggest you start from the smallest type of fish - to the largest type to obtain more items. i notice that you get more items from fishing tourney than bug off XD which is a good thing

EDIT:
for novembers tourney chip will ask for specific fish:
Carp, Crucian Carp, Black Bass


for december its just largest fish wins, and january he'll want:
Horse Mackerel, Pond Smelt, or Sea Bass

which are all pretty common :3

Sea bass is a decent fish from my experiences in CF of fishing tourneys.

If it's the any fish tourney, and you know it, spend the night before on the island just fishing for sharks, almost guaranteed winners.

Thanks for all the great advice! Boy... don't you wish you could check the size of your fish anytime and not just when you catch it?... For once it will be good to load up on sea bass lol.

November (3rd Saturday) Carp, Crucian Carp or Black Bass
December (2nd Saturday) any fish
January (3rd Saturday) Horse Mackerel, Pond Smelt or Sea Bass

March (3rd Saturday) Crucian Carp, Horse Mackerel or Loach
April (2nd Saturday) any fish
May (3rd Saturday) Carp, Black Bass or Sea Bass
