Fireworks show questions?

I know you can't change the fireworks displays while your gates are open, but does anyone know if custom design fireworks can show up while playing online if you put them in beforehand? Also, will a dream address saved on the night of a fireworks show show the fireworks?

Yes they can! I visited a friends island and her town flag, among another designs, appeared in the sky.
