Fireworks festival poll: New Leaf vs New Horizons

Gotta go with New Horizons here. Nothing against New Leaf, I just really enjoy what they did here this time around in NH!

Though I’ve played NL I wasn’t able to participate in its version of the fireworks festival but judging from photos I’ve seen online I’d have to go with New Horizons. The graphics are better and the fireworks on the game is similar to ones you can see in real life.
Aside from the balloons though, the prizes are just alright for me.

I can not remember the fireworks in new leaf. So I have to go with the fireworks for this game there were so good

NH fireworks look much nicer and more varied (iirc there wasn't many different ones in NL). Villagers using sparklers also makes it feel more alive.

BUT, NL's music was so much better (emotional AND energetic) and the prizes from Redd were a bit more exciting.

I don't really care for the prizes, but the fireworks looked better in NH, which is something that should be expected.

New horizon definitely has the better festival. I spent like an hour taking photos for my island journal. Plus the villagers are more interactive and the boppers are cuter! The animation of waving the sparkler is very cute!

New Horizons by a long way. Not only are the visuals beautiful but our villagers are more involved in taking part. I've seen a few setting off sparklers and screaming at the sky. Also, I'm pretty glad that we have more flexibility of choosing our custom designs for the fireworks. Back in New Leaf, you had to get them in before 7pm and you can't change them out if you end up changing your mind. In New Horizons, you can change up your custom designs even during the fireworks and put them in the order you like!

New Horizons gets my vote but I was feeling particularly nostalgic for the NL music the entire time haha

I loved the more flexible custom fireworks and the villager reactions, and didn't really miss anything from new leaf

Recency bias and improved graphics certainly play a factor, but I'm going to have to say I prefer the New Horizons version of the Fireworks Show. I'm not usually a graphics person, but the fireworks and boppers simply look so much better, and the majority of the event does revolve around the aesthetics.

New Leaf did have a wider variety of prizes available from Redd, but while I like them (particularly the Boxed Figurine, Love Tester, and Lovely Phone), their absence isn't really a deal breaker for me.

I feel the same way. I like that balloons are not just street pass anymore but at the same time they're a limited event item. I am not happy that the bubble wand thing breaks after a few uses though, I probably won't bother with it anymore since it's not an essential item.

Honestly I have no preference. I loved the fireworks in New Leaf and the show in New Horizons gives me major nostalgia tbh. I do love how the villagers seem like they're having a lot more fun in New Horizons though!

It's a tie for me. I liked the prizes and atmosphere (music, etc) better in NL, but I love the variety of fireworks and how adorable it is having the villagers involved in NH!

Both "events" are essentially the same, except with different raffle prizes. I prefer NH's raffle prizes over NL, and voted for NH also because the graphics quality is way better and makes it more fun to actually sit and watch!

I liked the New Horizons fireworks event.It was better than the Bug Tourney and the Fish Off.I wasn't crazy about the prizes.I remember getting a lovely phone and a miniature car during the New Leaf fireworks event.The only good thing I got in New Horizons was a pink balloon.

As someone who still thinks that NL is better than NH at this point, I actually preferred NH's fireworks festival! It was my favorite event so far.

I like that the prizes you get from Redd are all interactive instead of just furniture pieces. Bopping the balloon... fanning the uchiwa fan... blowing bubbles... using the tweeter... spinning the pinwheel... all good in my book! Nice that you can make a figure 8 with the sparklers and for the fountain fireworks you press A when it's on the ground rather than just dropping it.

I was surprised that villagers can use sparklers. When my friend left my island I thought that that was pretty cute.

Another factor for me was the clothing. I was finally able to wear a yukata that has the right shape and geta that make proper clacking sounds. I live in Japan but because of the virus there weren't any festivals near me (although I know many had been canceled because of the Olympics originally so maybe that's irrelevant). There's probably some rural places that are still doing something but it's really nice that people can experience that in-game.

In future games maybe we could get some little games like the goldfish scoop or hooking the yo-yo ball that would be chance based.

i honestly dont even remember attending a fireworks fest in NL, but im going to attempt to go to one now just to compare, cos i absolutely adored the one in NH
