Wow, Nintendo really is going all out with this game in terms of promotion. They will actually be releasing a demo on the eShop (Jan 19th) ahead of the game's release date. (Feb 4th) Also, the special edition 3DS bundle previously released in Japan is coming here too!

Nintendo has revealed new information about Fire Emblem Awakening, launching exclusively for Nintendo 3DS on Feb. 4. The story of Fire Emblem Awakening begins in the kingdom of Ylisse and centers on Lord Chrom, the brother of Ylisse's Holy Ruler. Chrom leads the Shepherds, a band of soldiers who defend the borders of Ylisse from Plegian bandits. Players create a custom avatar and play as Chrom's right-hand man who is deeply ingrained in the main storyline. In addition to an immersive storyline, Fire Emblem Awakening keeps the adventure going with StreetPass and SpotPass functionality, as well as downloadable content available for purchase. Newly revealed information includes the following:

Downloadable Content: Maps will be available to purchase and download starting on launch day, and others will be distributed regularly. The first downloadable map will be available for free for a limited time only and will serve as an introduction to the steady weekly stream of additional maps. The additional maps will be offered at different price points. Players with a copy of Fire Emblem Awakening and a broadband Internet connection will be able to access the downloadable content through the Outrealm Gate located on the in-game world map, which will be unlocked after the player completes the fifth mission in the main story mode. The content will include additional information about new class types, skills, playable characters, maps with new storylines and special maps that let players earn more experience points, gold or other rare items.

SpotPass: In addition to content that can be purchased from within the game, Nintendo will also distribute new content via SpotPass for free. SpotPass content will be distributed in the launch time frame and will feature new maps with new storylines, characters and items.

StreetPass: Fire Emblem Awakening players can set up a StreetPass Team and exchange certain game data with other players. The StreetPass Team is made up of 10 units from an existing team in story mode. Players can also edit team names and create custom messages for other players to see. StreetPass characters will randomly appear on the world map, giving players the option to recruit the team leader with gold, buy any weapons or items the team is carrying or battle and win to recruit the leader for free. Like the random battles in the main story mode, the player will have full control of battles in StreetPass mode. Players will also earn "renown" based on battles won. A players' "renown" is visible to other players through StreetPass.

Fans can also try out Fire Emblem Awakening prior to launch by downloading the free demo available in the Nintendo eShop. The demo will be available on Jan. 17. When the game launches on Feb. 4, shoppers can purchase the packaged game as usual at retail locations nationwide. Or they can simply purchase and download the game on their own from the Nintendo eShop using a wireless broadband connection. Regardless of their purchasing method, the game sells for a suggested retail price of $39.99. For more information about Fire Emblem Awakening, visit http://fireemblem.nintendo.com/.

Cool, this game looks good and I'm wondering whether or not I should get it, so I hope the demo will be able to make up my mind.

And that 3DS looks pretty sweet as well.

If this is like the GBA Fire Emblem... I want it now. That 3DS looks great and I may choose to sell my old one. I'm a sucker for blue DS's!

Now I say no AC3DS XL bundle for NA.

The chances are slim. I mean seriously, if a consumer had a choice between an epic Fire Emblem 3DSXL(LL) or a Animal Crossing 3DSXL(LL) most people would choose Fire Emblem. I love AC but most people arn't too hyped for it. In Gamestop I've had multiple encounters with people workers who have no idea what AC is. <May just be my couple stores

By the way, the Fire Emblem bundle isn't an XL considering the XL didn't exist when it released in Japan.

^One of the most underrated franchises of all time, though it's not for everyone. It's a turn based strategy game, and it can be quite difficult at times.

I find it a bit strange that they're releasing a bundle with it. I didn't think Fire Emblem was that popular in the states.

^ I was thinking of trying it out but I'm afraid I won't understand the story. My best friend is a fan of the series.

Oh, most Fire Emblem games are self-contained. Awakening is a completely new story in a new land, so you're not missing out.

I really wish I had money right now. Fire Emblem has always been one of my favourite series of games and I even still have the Fire Emblem 7 cartridge for the GBA.

The demo released this morning, and I must say, it's brilliant. The graphics are gorgeous (arguably better than Radiant Dawn), there are cutscenes, and even some slight voice acting. The tweaks to the battle menus and animations are fantastic, too.

Really excited about this one. It should be great.

I played the demo too and I was just blown away. It's probably one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen. And this is my first time playing any Fire Emblem game. It's pretty, interesting, and there was a funny scene in it too :3 I am going to be picking this game up as soon as I can. Unfortunately, I'm broke.

Oh, it seems I mistyped the date by 2 days. Oops. Anyway, I downloaded the demo earlier too and will be giving it a try tomorrow!

I'll try it tomorrow! As a fan I'm glad it looks so good at this point of development!

This point of development? It's been out in Japan for a year, haha.

Hey. In my mind it hasn't been released anywhere lol. I like to think that a game is still being worked on even when its not :P.

I'm glad new people are getting into this series, its way too underrated. I really want to play this game. I've listened to the soundtrack so many times, & I've seen the walkthroughs. I was playing Fire Emblem 7 for most of the past 2 days (will continue today) And this is my third time playing through the game. For awhile it was my #1 fav game.

I enjoyed the demo a lot as well. I already have it pre-ordered at my store, and cannot wait to pick it up!

Alas, I can only hope I don't work on that day! :(

Wow! That demo was so good! The graphics, cutscenes, combat... just everything about it was so amazing! I can't wait to get this game. I'm so impressed!
