Ok so this might be a little weird and hard to explain, but I almost don't want to put work into my town because I'm afraid that once I get it to where it looks or feels "finished" then I won't want to play as much. I don't have interest in buying a second cartridge, so my only way of feeling like I have a lot of stuff to do again would be to restart, which would erase all the work I would have done. Of course, I can't be sure that's even how I'll feel since I've never even gotten close to finishing a town before. I don't know, I just feel like it wouldn't be as fun without really having things to work towards. Anyways, my town is still super noobish (I don't even have shampoodle yet lol) so this is still in the far future.

How about you? Have you finished your town, and if so, did you lose interest after you'd completed most everything?

I have two towns and I have basically barely started designing them. I'm gathering the villagers and pwps I need. I have a loooooong way to go.

But I know what you mean. I fear that too. You aren't the only one!! You can always either start over or get another copy. :)

My towns were done but found that I wanted to change things.
My main town was fairytale and one night while wandering thru my town I decide to change to a zen town.
Once a month I try to walk thru my town or dream them. This month I switched the lilies for tulips in main town.

My main town mayor has completed all her badge so I'm working on my extra players badges/ playing with the villagers.
Found it more relaxing not been mayor. Free to go to the island or hang with the villager if I want to. Found that the villagers are happier when the extra player play.

I have never completed a town. I always keep resetting at some point because I always take a break or two.

Never ever finished a town. I usually just stop playing for a long time and then reset my town because of that. I have 2 games which one is just to mess around with and the other one is my main town. I am determined this time around to "complete" my main town because in all my animal crossing games, I've never been able to do so. Games do eventually come to a point where there is a ending. Animal Crossing doesn't have an official "end" so it ends whenever you decide to end.

I would probably never reset my first town. I might tear everything down to change the landscaping and look of the town though.

I have that fear too! But I think I'd be happiest when I finish, because I can just walk around and relax. Like being in a beautiful dream town, except it's actually mine haha
If I do get bored though, I'd probably just get different villagers for a change of scenery, so to say. I don't think I'd ever reset my current town, because it didn't even notice that the map I have now was the exact same as the one I had the previous time, but flipped. Basically I'm trying to not worry so much about my town being perfect. I'm trying to ignore my obsessions, and just finish landscaping the dang town!
Anyway, good luck with your town :)

I recently "destroyed" my entire town, PWPs and all. Been reworking it. Changed the paths, the flowers, bushes, everything. It's super fun!

I think maybe it's a good idea to change up your town depending on the season? At the start of each season, I change the paths to give the town a different vibe if that makes sense. That way, it'll still feel like a nice change without having to reset. Changing PWPs and landscaping per season can also help. :)

Great idea! I've always wanted to do this but I never get around to it. I always use paths with a lot of "grassy" areas and they look soooo bad in the autumn/winter. But I'm always just so lazy when it comes to fixing it!

I didn't read through all the posts, so most of this has probably already been said.

I've never finished a town before. Something always happens like, I get too busy and lose my favorite villagers, then get sad and reset, or as I'm designing and working on the town I realize I absolutely hate the layout I picked. Etc, etc, lol.
I have more than one town, so I feel like if I did ever finish one of them I wouldn't be bored because I'd still have others to work on. But if I did ever get to that point, I'm not sure what I would do. I always have so many ideas (which is why I have more than one town), so I can see myself setting a dream address up for the town, moving all bells/important items/hybrids I would want to keep to another town temporarily, and then resetting. OR I'd simply redo the town! Like, redecorate/landscape things in different ways, or for the different seasons. But really one of the best things about animal crossing to me is the more mundane, everyday chores. Digging up fossils, watering flowers, talking to my villagers. It's relaxing, and when I'm having a bad day or have been dealing with excessive anxiety, it really calms me down. I think that in itself would keep me playing well after a town was finally 'finished'.

I wish you luck with your town c: Take it slow and savor every minute of it, so even if you do hit a point where it feels finished, it'll all feel worth it.

I've been playing for 18 months with my original town. I never time travelled and it took me about 9 months to complete with Gracie's Emporium and getting all the PWPs I wanted. I think my town is completed even though I tweak things every now and then. I still play every day even if it's only for 5 mins some days. When I get 'bored' I change a room, I let a villager go and then see who's going to turn up in my campsite (I do plot reset though because I have paths and stuff). There are always things to do, enough to keep me interested in the game. I would never start again or get a new cartridge.

I think that as long as you stay active in a community like this you are unlikely to "finish" and lose interest. As you read about the goals others are setting and visit their towns, you will always have new ideas and goals for your own town. Have fun, don't worry!

that's true, I do like fishing, doing favors, watering flowers, etc. so I think you're right - even just that would keep me at least a little interested :) I feel the exact same way as you do, and animal crossing has always helped me with bad days and anxiety too. it's part of why I'm so attached to it hahah

also, thank u for wishing me luck!!!

that's a really good point, thank u! I've already learned so much and gotten lots of ideas from being on here, so you're probably right

I don't exactly slow down when close to finishing a town but yeah it sucks to be done. I don't think I've played my first copy in years and I only visit it nowadays to just hang out in it, which is a shame. I prob won't ever log onto the mayor anymore unless I somehow get a sudden urge to design the interiors of houses but I very hugely doubt I will.

I really wonder when I'll stop buying new copies. I have quite a few ideas for towns still that would be a blast to do..

I was thinking about this just the other day, because I'm getting pretty close to what I would consider "finished". But I think the trick is to set goals for yourself ! Once I'm happy with the way my town looks, my next goal will be trying to fill up my museum. Not only the bottom floor but I want to do something really unique/cool with the top floor, so that project will keep me entertained for quite some time. I wish you luck with your future endeavors in Nowhere ^.^

thank u! :)

I've never actually used the upstairs exhibits in any of my previous towns, but that might be something cool to do this time around! working on completely filling the downstairs exhibits would take a lot of time too, so those are really good suggestions. it would probably keep my interest for a while, anyway!

I've had my main town for over two years now, and while people tell me it looks finished, I enjoy changing things up every once in a while, replacing my pwps, and continuing to earn badges. I don't think my town will ever be completely finished.

I have one "finished" town, as far as landscaping and villagers are concerned. And you know what?

It's the town I play the MOST, because I love seeing all of my perma-villagers and the landscaping and it just makes me happy to see the first town in my long Animal Crossing obsession reach fruition.

You'd think it would be the other way around, that I'd be playing and trying to complete my other town (the one I've had since launch, btw), but...no.

But then again, I'm really weird.

The game is for enjoying, so I'd say do what you like and don't worry too much about whether or not it makes playing later boring if you have fun in the moment.

And I'm sure there are other things to do. Maybe you eventually decide to change the theme and put down new paths or plant new flowers, or decide to switch up what villagers you have, or hang out at the island more, or try to get all of your badges. There are still a lot of things you could do!

And if you ever got really, truly bored with it, you could always reset.
