Finally got back into New Leaf! Mayor of Hazzard

When can I buy some tools, etc. I've seen buried fossils but can't dig them up yet!
Keep buying from Nookling Junction. In New Leaf, even the fully upgraded store doesn't sell them every day like the one in NH does. Just keep going every day until it's there. I recommend buying a set of tools everyday if you're like me and tend to uh... accidentally sell your equipment because you're not paying attention when selling a lot of items at once.

Does Brewster and K.K. appear at any point?
Brewster's café is a public works project. K.K. will perform on Saturday evenings at Club LOL once you unlock it. I don't recall what the requirements for unlocking these are.

Can I go on mystery tours via the Train Station?
I believe Kapp'n escorts you to mystery tours, but I don't recall off hand how to unlock him.

I have tulips and cosmos, so I gather they are my native flowers?
Indeed.

I collected some shells down at the beach, can you sell them to Timmy and Tommy? (Sorry, I've forgotten the name of their shop already!)
You can! They don't go for much, but every bell counts in the early stages of the game, so I recommend selling as many as you can.

Main thing, how do I earn some bells? Mr. Nook still has to hit me with the bill for my house!
Sell everything that you're not using. Sell fruit, sell flowers, sell seashells, sell furniture that you don't care for, sell things you find in balloons. In addition, just like New Horizons, every day, there is one rock that dispenses bells when you hit it. But don't feel too pressured. Just like in NH, there is no time limit to pay off any of the loans, so pay it of at your own pace.

Hope that helps!

Kapp'n becomes available at the port once you've paid off your first home loan, I believe. This is where a lot of people make most of their money. They beetle and shark farm because the island there is summer time year round.

I believe it is either 7, 8, or 9 am. One of those hours, if you go to the island it will be raining without any of the island soundtrack. It's only for an hour, but it's so soothing to hear just the pitter-patter of the rain and crashing ocean waves.

Public work projects are suggested by the villagers, as well as npc when a certain threshold is hit. For the villagers, you just need to happen to be at the right time and place for them to be the first to 'ping' you. It's sort of like in NH when they notice you and then run up and shout your name.

What a lot of people did to get pwps faster is the diving trick. You need a diving suit for this, which you can buy at the island. You also need a shovel, fill all of your pocket space, and remove all of your bells. Trap the villager you want somehow. Easiest way is by shoveling holes all around them so they can't wander off. Then go dive into the ocean and swim as far away as possible. I think the wait is 5 minutes?

At that point go back to shore and find your trapped villager. They should ping you and hopefully it's for a pwp suggestion. At this point in the game you probably don't need to do that, but it does speed up the chances of getting a pwp you want from a certain personality. Just be sure that they are the first ones to see you. If you run into another's line of sight they will ping you instead.

I hope you have fun with this game! It might be a bit outdated compared to NH in terms of graphics and QoL improvements, but it still has a lot of life and charm to it. And a lot of different content that they sadly didn't add to NH.

aww i hope you have a great time on your playthrough! new leaf is still very near and dear to my heart and it honestly still holds up!

one thing that popped into my head when thinking of public works projects is to be sure to remember that different villager types will suggest/ask for different projects. i tend to like normal and lazy villagers and loved filling my towns with them. when i first started playing i didn't realize why certain projects weren't coming up on my list because i didn't have the villager type and/or relationship level with the type that would request the project

This is the most cruel and insane thing I've read today, and it's hilarious.

Take your time with it, seriously enjoy it and do whatever comes natural. I feel like it’s a lot more relaxing than new horizons? Generally just take it all in and have a good time with it. And also my tip for earning money, go to the island at night and catch as many sharks/bugs as you can to sell them 😊

Yesterday, I found Wisp's lamp, I took it back to my tent, but I presume you have to have a house before anything happens? Managed to get a net and shovel from Nookling Junction and sell some shells. Is it best to sell to Nookling Junction or Re-Tail? I didn't know that Timmy and Tommy took it in turns to look after the shop in New Leaf. Isabelle has a brother? Is that Digby? Uh, Julian set up a plot. Went into see Blathers and donated my first fossils and Gulliver was on the beach! Unlocked the amiibo camera, so obviously I had to scan Buck! I know this will be old news for you all, but for me it's exciting! :D

Glad you're enjoying the game so far!

I always sell at Re-Tail. They are usually open later and I think you get more bells at Re-Tail than you do from the Nooklings. Also, Re-Tail has a special feature where you can earn even more bells for the item of the day. Check out the sign in front to see what the daily item is.

And yes, Digby is indeed Isabelle's brother.

Finally, got into New Leaf again! Managed to get a lot done today.
  • Since, I had Wisp's lamp now, I can scan amiibo! :D So, I'm sure you know who was first to get scanned in...Buck!
  • Found a plot had been reserved for Fauna.
  • Donated a long locust, monarch butterfly and mantis to Blathers.
  • Also, donated four fossils to Blathers.
  • Found a mitten, after 2 attempts, I finally got the correct villager, Tom.
  • Spoke to Tom Nook, who informed me I needed 10,000 bells to build a home. So after several trips back and forth to Re-tail I managed to earn my bells and will have a house tomorrow.
  • Got a Mush TV.
  • Did a lot of weeding, and picked up a lot of mushrooms.
  • Dug up a sapphire. Is there anything we can do with it, or is it best to sell it to earn bells?
  • Some villagers did say they hadn't seen me for a while, especially Julian who remarked he hadn't even met me!
All in all, had a really good time, exploring, and look forward to progressing as Mayor of Hazzard!
