There is one villager in my town now who I had decided to let go of as I would really love Fauna.
Up until now, I have been successful in moving out any villager I wanted to leave but it's take such a large amount of time as I've done it day to day. Is there a faster method that is also safe? Or shall I just stick with what I've been doing even if it takes a while again?

Thanks in advance

I've seen the suggestion of creating a new villager, having them talk to all of your villagers ONCE so that you introduce yourself, and then having them talk to all the villagers EXCEPT the one you want to leave, so you establish speaking terms with all but one. This, apparently, is supposed to signal the game that the one villager is unnecessary? I've tried it a few times but I can't say I have definitive results :O

Oh that's interesting, I never even thought about using a new character....think I'll give that a go when I'm home later. Can't hurt to try it. Plus I'll only be doing it the once with the last villager whatever I try as I'm pretty happy with the rest of them, I'll think they will probably stay for the duration of my time playing this game.
Thanks for the tip!

Let us know how it goes! Maybe we need to do a participatory research project where everyone inputs their data *nerdnerdnerd*

here's my cycling method, although it involves time traveling so be prepared:
  1. time travel day by day. talk to all the villagers you want to keep as much as you can. (they must be either in their houses or outside. if not, ignore them, they won't give useful information)
  2. if a villager talks about rumors (e.g. rumors can be frightening, or how a certain rumor is incorrect) no one is thinking of moving. time travel to the next day. make sure you get this from a different villager each time. this dialogue means no one is thinking of moving except, possibly, the villager saying it.
  3. if a villager says someone is thinking of moving, and you want them to stay, get them to ping asap. if they are not walking around your town, they cannot ping you. you can time travel to the next day, but do not advance any more than 4 days. sometimes you have to push them a little for them to ping you.
  4. if you want the rumored villager to leave, travel 5 or 6 days ahead (5 days gets them in boxes, 6 days gets them out).
  5. this only works if you have 9 or 10 villagers.

you could also do this without time traveling, but it'll take much longer.
hope it helps, good luck~!

heres what i do to move a villager out:
1. walk around for moving pings. if you receive one from a villager you wanna keep, deny.
2. after denying, TT 6 days forward then 6 days backward again to present day.
3. walk around town again for moving pings.

theres always a 90% chance that a random villager will ping once you TT backward 6 days. if not, then TT 1 day forward.
do those 3 steps until the villager you want to boot pings you.
