External Hardrive for the Wii U

So I found out that DKCRTF is 11.3 gb! So I decided to consider getting a external hardrive. Do you have any suggestions of what I should get and from where? Also would this hardrive work with the wii u? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-Expansion-500GB-portable-external/dp/B0084LZIB8
I have just asked the same question on http://nintendoservicecentre.co.uk/ and they have have sent me this helpful link.

According to that list the 500 gb drive doesn't work. What drive do you use?

I'm figuring this wouldn't work either? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toshiba-Canvio-Connect-1TB-External-USB-3-0-Hard-Drive-Red-/191545141211?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c98fae7db

It doesn't state on Nintendo's website that it does work.

This is the one that I use. But it is only 500GB. I do not do much eShop game downloading though.

You don't necessarily have to pick something from Nintendo's list. They only recommend the ones that they do because they're self-powered. But they do state at the bottom that they don't guarantee any of those will actually work, aaaand those also tend to be a bit more expensive.

If you pick up a Y cable - http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-dual-Micro-B-Cable-Black/dp/B005M0ICG2 - you won't need to worry about that. The Wii U just isn't powerful enough to run a hdd off of one usb port, so it needs to be powered by two of them. And then you can go on to pick out a cheaper option. Such as either of these:

(This one is cheaper on newegg, but an Amazon review was written for the Wii U, if you're interested: http://www.amazon.com/Elements-Portable-Drive-Storage-WDBUZG0010BBK-NESN/dp/B00CI3BLPA )

If you would feel safer getting one from the list, the MyBook from WD is available, and the price isn't too scary. =p http://www.amazon.com/Book-External-Drive-Storage-Backup/dp/B0041OSQB6

My Nintendo Wii U runs the HDD from one port...

Yours uses an AC Adapter for its power source, so it only needs one USB port. Because it's self-powered; it doesn't need to rely on the Wii U, you only plug it in to connect it.

The average external drive doesn't plug into an outlet, they're designed to be powered by a PC - and therefore they would rely on the Wii U to power them. They need two of the Wii U's USB ports in order to get sufficient power, on a Y cable.

If you were using a desktop HDD without an external power source on your Wii U off of just one USB port, your HDD likely would not be running at all. Granted, there are SOME without an AC Adapter that don't need to be forked, but for such an expensive piece of hardware, why risk it. =p

Most of them do work though, i have tried a lot of USB memory hardrives with the Wii U (around 30 different devices) and they all worked. They were around 500 GB but i do not think you will need more than that.

I want to pick up a hard drive for my Wii U soon, but I don't need a Terabyte, maybe 100GB? What would you recommend for that?

External - or internal - HDDs that small really don't "exist" anymore. And where they do, they're actually more expensive than the larger drives.

Take this one, for example. Western Digital My Passport

http://www.amazon.com/Passport-Portable-External-Storage-WDBKXH5000ABK-NESN/dp/B006Y5UV4U

At 320 GB, it's $90
500 GB, it's $95
750 GB is on sale for $80
And 1TB is $87.

Only the 750 is a sale price, the rest are priced normally. Does that make sense to you, either? Because I don't really get it. Lol.

To further confuse, there's a 2TB from WD that's only $100.

Here's a cheaper 500GB, though. Price changes by color (because that makes sense, too) it's $60 and free shipping for red, or $67 for Titanium. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0ZX10R6663

Really, just about any external drive should be fine. As I said before, they only recommend the ones they do because they have their own power source, so you wouldn't need the y-cable.
(Which you would for either of the smaller ones; though the 2TB has an external power source)

Would this be good? It's also self powered just how Nintendo likes it.

I'm going to be completely honest - I'm not at all familiar with the brand, and given that there are no reviews on it, I, personally, wouldn't buy it. If there were any reviews on it, that might be a different story. But extra storage is so expensive, I still probably wouldn't risk it.

I linked all Western Digital HDDs before because I'm familiar with them. All of my drives are either WD or Samsung, and I know and trust them. They've never let me down.

Seagate isn't bad either, though. If you're looking to go cheaper. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178245
Actually, there's a nice WD that's also $60, lol. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236517
