Expert advice needed about time travelling with the new update

Hey,
I have a question....

I have a copy of New Leaf which I stopped playing in 2014. I got quite far with it and I have a really nice set of villagers.

I would like to start playing it again and I hear the new update makes it so you don't lose all your villagers when you go back.

I am thinking it might be worth TTing to play the weeding game each year and to get the zodiac statues. Will villagers start moving out after the first time I play it?

It's the same as before the update. As long as the day you jump from is a day where someone pinged you and you told them not to move you should be fine and no one will move out. If I were you I would TT on a day where I stopped someone from moving to the desired day, then go day by day until you get another ping and stop them before jumping again.
