Exchanging friend codes not allowed on CT?

What even is the point of that? That seems ridiculously stupid. What if I met someone on there, hung out with them for a while, and want to remain in contact? I'm curious as to how they plan on stopping you from trading friend codes anyway lol.
 
You have to write their code down or take a picture. Then go home and add the code. Then either open your gate or visit theirs.

I've done this lots of times. There was only one time that the other person didn't add me when they got home.

I know right? I've had it quite a few times where people just haven't bothered or forgot to add me back and I never saw them again. It's fun making new friends through Club Tortimer though! :)

No, I know that. I mean it's actually apparently against the rules now. I got a notice saying it is when I went to CT today.
 
They made it so you can't type a lot of numbers together anymore. You can still exchange friend codes, but it's more tedious.

Wonder why? Seems kind of pointless since a lot of people go to CT with the intention of playing with others and making friends to keep in touch with. Strange
