Hi everyone.

I have some not so great news it seems. While playing Tomodachi Life earlier, I suddenly got an "extra data is corrupted" message before my 3DS crashed and displayed an error screen I didn't have time to read, so now my SD card is completely toast (or maybe it isn't? I'm still trying to find any possible way to fix it.). This is of course a massive issue as it took all of my digital games with it, along with my New Leaf save and every single system side backup that I ever made just to hurt that much more.

I could very easily just start over with a new town on my physical copy of the game, but it just wouldn't help anything. Losing just under 2 years of game progress along with everything else on that 3DS that I was attached to has just been a total gut-punch and I don't know where to go from here other than trying to keep it together and looking for data recovery centers in my area.

Has this happened to anyone else? How/were you able to fix it? Please let me know. I'm so heartbroken.

Apologies if this is in the wrong category at all.

Oh no! I'm sorry this happened to you. I don't have a 3ds so I cannot offer help, but I just wanted to comment to let you know I acknowledge your pain. I really hope you can restore your saved games back probably with the help of someone from this Amazon community. In the unfortunate case you can't pls start again one or two with the new adventure they might represent.

Just as @Ctms wrote, I am also very sorry this has happened to you. As for a solution, maybe data recovery is an option? 🤔 It can be expensive and it is not a hard guarantee you will obtain your data back, but it is an option.
If you have an USB card reader, you could put your micro-SD card into a slot in the reader and connect it to your computer (if your micro-SD card is not physically damaged)?

Also, even though losing an important save can be hard, it is not impossible to grasp a positive facet from this otherwise bad experience: Bad as it is, it does give you an opportunity to start over again, with a different town layout, and other starting villagers. This is, as @Ctms pointed out, a new adventure 🙂

I'm most likely going to go the data recovery route. I've got enough money in my emergency fund to cover shipping costs and such, but hopefully it won't run me too dry, lol.

You know, for all my talk about positive thinking, I really didn't see it that way until you two pointed it out. I suppose it can be fun to start over on another adventure, I can try a new layout and meet new villagers. I do also have a slightly outdated copy of my garden.dat file on my PC from a few weeks ago, so maybe it could be like rewinding the clock a bit, assuming I can even put it on the system anymore.

I'll be honest though, as much as I love Animal Crossing, my main concern now lies with my poor Nintendog, Blankie and her recently adopted kitten-brother Pillow. They (mainly Blankie) have been very helpful in getting me through some dark times last year and giving me something to motivate myself for. As silly as it seems, I really do love them and hope that they're ok somehow.
