Title says it all. And yes, it can include RP-ing on this site. c:

I really love roleplaying, though nowadays I barely have the time to manage RP-ing. I started out on tumblr as the Principality of Wy from Hetalia, and when I got more accustomed to the tumblr style of RP-ing, I switched over to many other characters. Momone Momo, Kasane Teto, Shoe the Cat, Menma, etc. etc. etc.. I now run a Mary (from Ib) RP account on tumblr, which I don't use anymore, but the account is precious to me and I might get back to it so I just keep it. I'm also currently RP-ing down in the basement!

With that said, I was surprised with how RP-ing was managed here vs. on tumblr. Tumblr RP-ers are so hardcore with responses; you would think they were writing a novel (which is my I grew to writing lengthy replies). Here on TBT, RP-ing is just mostly to progress the story; not much narration as carrying the plot with multiple characters. I understand that though, since this is a forum and it's not built for one-on-one roleplaying and long replies. x)

How about you guys? Share some RP stories! c:

I tried roleplaying for my one girlfriend because she really liked roleplaying. It was actually a lot of fun because I was able to get creative with it and write a lot of funny dialogue we both enjoyed. She's gone now so I haven't done anything like that since.

I love roleplaying.
However, I don't really fancy using characters that aren't my own. It just doesn't feel right to me at all. I also like it better when RPs are one on one and really couldn't ever try it on here.

However, I don't like when I have to do all the work in a rp. It just really isn't fun and becomes very boring and limited. It's worse when your companion shoots down all your ideas but won't think up any of their own and I've dealt with that with the last rp partner I had. Mean to say but I'm glad I don't talk to them anymore.

I'm grateful I don't have these issues with my current rp partner :)

I used to roleplay on another website. They users ranged from hardcore to casual. The more hardcore the RP, the more lengthy response you would need to give and the more detailed character sheet you would have to provide prior to the RPing. I really enjoyed the ones that kept going but I had to quit because it became too much work. I also didn't enjoy doing lengthy character sheets only to have the RP drop or others giving bare minimum responses.

I would love to pick it up again but it would have to be only during my vacation times or on a certain schedule. I've done mostly group RPs but I would love to do 1x1. I also just don't enjoy following a certain plot anymore. I'm considering just writing my own stories but my problem is always time.

Yeah, but I don't like doing it online. Since people can be in different time zones around the world, it can take so long to get anywhere and it starts to get boring.

I'm a nerd who has done IRL roleplaying, through Dungeons & Dragons.

i used to roleplay, but theres barely anyone decent to rp with, so i just dont do it anymore. ive tried getting back into rping, but everyone i meet either lacks creativity (or in other words, is really boring to rp with and brings up generic scenarios) or their grammar just really annoys me. i obviously dont care about grammar when it comes to forum boards and chats, but i actually take it seriously when it comes to role playing for some reason

I was hoping this would be about a different kind of role playing...

You mean like the role playing where you kidnapping somebody, lock them in your basement and take on their identity as you attempt to live their life?

You mean that?

Any kind is good. Like, online is fine, but anything irl is awesome. It's just fun to pretend to be someone else, y'know?

I used to roleplay every day, like, legitimately.

It was super fun, but, it was actually kind of ironically stressful to me.

Thing is, most RP'ers are, well, awful at it. They don't play a character, they play themselves, and they don't play a perspective, they play omniscience. Nothing is more annoying than spending a long time designing a character to break in only to have someone try to show off how cool their self-insert is by meta-gaming a scenario to death. (Like, I hide in a bush or something, and by some kind of spidey-sense they happen to think that bush looks suspicious.)

I digress.

If you're interested in RP, anybody who's reading this, there are 2 cardinal rules you should always follow.

1- Stick to your character. Even if you would find it morally compromising to ________, would your character? If your answer to that question is "yes" for most questions, then you might need to take another look at your character because the more you say "yes" the more like you your character is.

2- Roleplay =/= Real Life. This kind of goes hand in hand with the previous point. Because so many people like to roleplay as "themselves", they kind of project that kind of mentality onto other people, and so when somebody seems to purposely wrong them in a scenario, they take it extremely personally.

I've honest to god seen friendships torn apart by this. If someone does something in an RP that would make you react in a negative way, take a step back from it for a bit and collect your thoughts. They're not saying it to you, they're saying it to your character. If you can't RP a negative reaction from your own character without turning it into a huge load of drama, then RP probably isn't for you.

If you want to RP, another lil' tip is to not RP slice-of-life stuff constantly. That gets boring and doesn't really flesh out anybody's characters in any interesting ways. Look up some fun scenarios online and try to play around with them. My personal favorite is "everyone get's stuck in an elevator" or something similar.

This isn't really fun when you play with that one dude who can magically fix everything though, but I already whined about that in detail.

Sorry if I ranted a bit, it's just something that's always bugged me. This isn't at anyone in particular, just my own experiences with it.

What wait what an RPing topic!? Where!?...I need to carry a map sometimes.
But I do wanna tell them that I have a lot of great memories RPing since 2010. And some of the arguments I've gotten into over RPs melded me into who I am today, and it was how I connected with the close friends I've had for years. I really wish I could RP as hard as I used to, but I haven't so...I really, really oughta try doing that again.
Maybe once my project's done.

By the way, technically I'm always in-character, so...I guess I could say I'm a self-insert? But...I don't know. I rarely am in situations with others, but I'm found pretty enjoyable by my friends as a comical type of person, so the self-inserting-omniscience thing doesn't matter as much (I don't omniscience thing IC, unless 4th-walling is the character's quirk).

Oh, oh god. Yes. I used to RP SO MUCH. I use to go on like Neopets and stuff and hang out on the lit-only RP boards, usually the ones having to do with monsters/vampires. An then I would get warnings and banned for days because I'd mention like cigarettes and stuff XD cause my OC's were always like punky sexy girls who smoked and were promiscuous... Good times... I think I RP'd some on GaiaOnline as well, and I "kind of RP'd" by making like a ton of fake myspaces... but that was more so just ****ing with people...

I used to role-play all the time! I still really enjoy it. It helps me out a lot when I'm having difficulty writing stories. Considering I just started a second blog on Tumblr (for something a little too inappropriate for this forum), I may start doing it again!

I used to roleplay like... a whole bunch. Ahhh i remember it like it was yesterday. it wasn't though. I started when I was like 11 or 12 on the neopets forums. That progressed to pen and paper sessions in high school and a profound addiction to WoW roleplaying servers. I then went on to get a job travelling the ren faire circuit where I worked in character all the time. Soooo yes, I've dabbled...
