So next Friday I'll be experiencing meeting someone in real life that I met on the internet which will be a first for me. I can only imagine it being incredibly awkward, at least initially.

Has anyone else ever met someone from the internet, what were your experiences? If not, would you ever do so?

Well some people I've only talked to on the internet, but they were friends of friend in real life. I've met a lot of those kinds of people, but never a complete stranger. Then again, I'm only 14 so I probably shouldn't in the first place.

I've never done so but i would like to try, course I'm too young at the moment. Just make sure they aren't a crazy psycho. :>

But yeah, that would be very awkward for me since i have social anxiety.

Tell me about it, socially anxious introvert here. Should be interesting!

I haven't yet, but I'm hoping that if I get a job soon, that next summer I'll be able to buy tickets and fly out to Viginia for at least a week to be with my boyfriend... it's something I've wanted to do for more than a few years now.

Then in another year or two I'd really, really like to move out there and be with him permanently.

Benefit of living in the UK I suppose, we're so small over here that it's not far or too expensive to go anywhere in the country. I'll be getting an hour long train ride and he's meeting me at the station. Issue is of what to do after that!

I haven't.
Back in high school I was dating a guy online, and the biggest reason we broke up was because we wouldn't have been able to meet each other due to financial issues on both sides.
That and I was also secretly terrified to meet him, not because I was afraid he'd be psycho, but because I wouldn't know what to do. It probably would have been a sit-there-awkwardly sort of thing...

Even if it wasn't someone I was dating, I think I'd still be terrified to meet someone I've met online. All the online friends that I had in the past have moved on (not to say that I haven't) and we don't talk anymore, and I haven't made any really good online friends for a while... even in MMOs I'm antisocial and really shy now .___.; sheesh...

Met a friend a few years ago now. She came to England for a vacation so it was a perfect time for me to piggy back on that to meet her. Things were fine, didn't seem awkward to me. We had a great time and got to do lots of cool things around London. I plan on visiting her, along with many others, when I get the money.

And as you said Jason... I could quite easily come say hi to you!

Heh really? What did you end up doing?

And for sure! British TBT'ers unite~

Went and saw the play "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead", Bus Tour around London, London Zoo, went to the Cinema. I'm sure I've forgotten something and now I feel really bad.

I guess this is why meeting in London is a far better idea than a pathetic town lacking in interesting things to do. This is going to be so so awkward, haha.

It was done over a few days, so we had plenty of time to do these things.

I ended up talking to this one girl on Myspace and she invited me to a movie. We went together, and it turned out that she was way nicer on the internet than she was in person. We lost touch after that.

My sister and I befriended this one guy in Oregon and we got to meet him in person, twice. The first time, he came to our town, and we showed him the sites of our sad little town, but it was a lot of fun. As it turns out, his town was filthy stinkin rich. My sister and I felt so silly when we got to visit his town, only to realize that our town looked so crappy in comparison.

Kind of like playing Animal Crossing with people over wifi.

Yes, I met someone on this Forum actually.
It's amazing to know what world we live in, because we're closer than we think.
I even go to his school.

It was awkward at first (sorry Sam!), but it's normal now.

Yeah, I've met some dude on the internet and it turned out that we lived in the same town xD And that we would be going to the same high school the next year. Turned out to be a total ***** but yea ive met someone irl that I've met on the internet first.

Yes, twice at a con.
First person ended up begging me to buy her stuff in the dealers room and the second person was making out with her boyfriend the whole time.
Uh, yeah.

Not yet. There's a bunch of people from TBT in the Dallas area that I could actually go and meet up if I wasn't so lazy and adverse to meeting new people. I could even go as far as South Texas, but meh...

Yup, a couple times! Just last summer actually we planned a meetup at Disneyland for a couple days.
